A classic releases from back in 1994 that recently got a repress via Vinyl Fanatiks in 2019. This time, these two lords of the jungle get put onto 7” wax for the first time for all collectors of 45’s.
DJ Vern and DJ Ash were big DJ’s on the London pirate radio scene in the early to mid 90’s. Vern was repping Rush FM and Ash on Kool FM, both broadcasting out of the infamous Nightingale Estate in East London. This is the authentic sound of Jungle, raw and unkut.
The 7” edits were done by Ellis Dee.
Released in a black sleeve with the jukebox centre, these are limited to 250 copies, so don’t sleep on this release.
These are very limited. The records were supposed to have been dinked with the larger jukebox hole but were accidently sent to me with the standard spindle hole instead. Before returning them I kept a box of the smaller hole copies to share with you all. Comes in a plain white card discobag.
DJ Vern was a well-respected producer from Hackney who was a DJ on the London pirate radio Rush FM. DJ Ash was also a local DJ on the pirate station Kool FM (where he still has a show!) Vern needed someone with knowledge of the emerging Jungle scene to help him finish a tune. That tune was ‘Squeeze’ and Ash’s debut studio session spawned a lifelong friendship alongside many other tunes, all unreleased apart from the flipside ‘Magnificent’. Though their studio partnership was short lived, their legacy continues to this day.
To celebrate 25 years of the label, Tearin Vinyl’s second release ‘Squeeze/Magnificent’ has been repressed on krome (silver!) 180 gram vinyl. Originally crowdfunded on Kickstarter in 2019, meeting it target in less than 24 hours!
DJ Vern & DJ Ash bring to you the urban sound of London pirate radio, a scene that was always one step ahead of the police and the DTI. Their music was also one step ahead of the rest… merging a deep knowledge of the reggae soundsystems with the rising Jungle flavours of pirate radio. It’s now 2020 and the Jungle scene paved the way for Drum and Bass, which has since spawned numerous other genres which built the foundations that have supported many of todays EDM producers.
DJ Krome & Mr Time are the original Jungle Dons. They rose to fame with their releases on Suburban Base back in 1992 (‘This Sound Is For The Underground/The Slammer’) which were huge anthems for the rave scene. But when the rougher, reggae inspired sound of Jungle broke through the airwaves of London in 1993, they were part of the original pioneers to make that sound Massif!
They created Tearin Vinyl, a record label that mainly released music from their area of Hackney, East London. Reggae infused riddims with chopped up Akai beats and a bassline to bring down tower blocks.
To celebrate 25 years of the label, Tearin Vinyl’s debut release ‘Brok Out/London Talk’ has been repressed on krome (silver!) 180 gram vinyl. Originally crowdfunded on Kickstarter in 2019, meeting it target in less than 24 hours!
DJ Krome & Mr Time take you back to 1994 with two heavy hitters that were heavily rotated back in the day. This is Jungle Music as it should be heard, written by two of the genres finest purveyors. It’s now 2020 and the Jungle scene paved the way for Drum and Bass, which has since spawned numerous other genres which built the foundations that have supported many of todays EDM producers.
