Four cuts of 'Mount View Special’ with Jah Wobble on Bass and Diggory Kenrick on flute. The two cuts on the A side mixed by Martin Harrison. Two mixes on the flip side by Russ D of The Disciples.
Four on the floor steppers of the rootical kind!!!
Fine Gladstone Anderson roots tune with reflections on ‘Holy Mount Zion’ comes with a rare dub version of the same rhythm. Produced by Jah Lloyd and Mike Brooks as part of their TEEMS production imprint. Backed by the Roots Radics during their peak period.
Flip side is ‘Love is like a Password’ by Mike Brooks which was pressed in the UK by Hitrun. Never been re-pressed since its original press. Slam dunk roots!!! Comes in a custom sleeve.
Two rugged cuts of the 'Love and Broad Highway' piece from Mike Brooks and the Roots Radics. Comes on Mike Brooks Harvest label. Love and Broad Highway first surfaced in the early 1980s and has never been re-pressed since. Comes with two cuts of Mike Brooks ‘Long Long Time on the flip side.
Long Long Time was released in the UK on Hitrun and again has never been re-pressed since its first press. Recorded in Jamaica and released in the Uk without Mikey’s knowledge. All remastered direct from master tape. Mikey is back by the Roots Radics band who were in their prime at the time of recording. Tough sticky roots. Comes in a custom bag.
The tracks on this compilation certainly demonstrate Lloyd Park’s gifts as a conscious lyricist and soulful vocalist, who fully deserves to be ranked in the frontline of Jamaican singers.
Lifted from Pressure Sounds’ Sound System Scratch compilation, this is the original piece to Shinehead’s dancehall classic Billie Jean riddim. Originally based on the obscure Studio One A Get a Lick by Bumps Oakley circa 1968, this cut was reportedly built by Family Man for a Bob Marley composition, but was never used. Somehow a cut got into the hands of sound men who popularised it as a vehicle for their deejays and numerous different versions have emerged over the years. Equally revered amongst dancehall fans and roots fans, the flip features a specially commissioned “version” only available on this 7” constructed from the original by the Dub Organiser aka Chris ‘The Mule’ Lane of the A Class Studio and Fashion Records.
A gorgeous slab of roots from the production team of Michael and Geoffrey Chung. Mikey Chung wrote and arranged the song and the production by Geoffrey Chung is total sympathetic to Keith Goodes excellent vocal delivery. This is the first time this tune has been re-issued since it appeared in the mid 70s. The first pressing is limited to just 600 copies. Come in a re-cycled pressure sounds sleeve and hand stamped bag. An absolute belter of a song that has been versioned in recent years. But this is the original. Mastered to perfection in all its original glory. A total delight from start to finish.
A deep roots tune coming to you on a heavyweight vinyl disc in a special cardboard sleeve. Produced by Augustus Pablo and Hugh Mundell the vocal cut was originally featured on their superb 'Africa Must Be Free By 1983' album. A Rockers classic.
Dj Dillingers laid back scat vocals on 'Brace a Boy' hit the spot on this Pablo produced gem. The B side 'AP Special' is fragile and evocative and possibly even better than the A side. Both tunes use the same rhythm although in entirely different ways. Long un-available on 45. Comes in a custom Pablo printed sleeve.
This seriously in demand forty five has been unavailable for years. Perennially popular with sound systems and based around the Heptones' classic 'Love Without Feeling' it comes in a specially designed sleeve, cut on extra heavy vinyl and a must for all roots fans.
Originally released in 1978, in the UK only on the Grove Music label. Good condition originals now fetch over 200 pounds and it’s not hard to hear why. This is a very fine dub album. Every track a real head nodder. Vivian Jackson (AKA Yabby You) produces excellent riddims supplied by a youthful Sly & Robbie, before their unique sound was distilled, whilst Tubby and Prince Jammy provide the mixes. Tommy McCook, Skully, Chinna, Ansel Collins and Bernard Harvey supply the high notes.

A lovely subdued vocal from Yabby and the Prophets. The drums are slightly more crunchy than the original mix. No DJ on the flip-side but very spacey with the drums to the front. Deep and soulful.

b1. Chant Down Babylon Kingdom Version (Dubplate Mix)
The kind of thing that only reggae music can do! Moody and haunting this subtle, ethereal record, based on Barbara Streisand's ‘Woman In Love’ melody, takes a slice of mainstream pop and spins it off somewhere else. Prince Jammy at his very best.
Raw dub plates from the Upsetter. Both sides cut from dub plates. The A side is slightly less spacey and the b side which has never been out before is pure Perry madness. Mixed as its been etched to vinyl its the real thing.
Late period rocksteady from Hemsley Morris. An excellent song from the very under recorded Hemsley Morris. Has Joe Higgs on the flip-side with 'Don't Mind Me' sounding as wise as ever. Backed by The Dynamites and produced by Clancy Eccles. All the sleeves for this 45 are made from re-cycled Pressure Sounds album sleeves. All individually hand stamped.
Following recent neck surgery Dennis Bovell was under heavy medical discipline, amongst other restrictions there was to be strictly no playing of the bass. Now, more than any musician, the bass player has an almost physical connection to his chosen instrument, umbilical even, so the prospect of no vibration sensation was going to be difficult to deal with for the recovering Dennis. Not one to let such news impede his onward path Dennis came up with the idea of returning to unfinished work in an attempt to distract attention from his enforced low-end bass cold turkey. Down in his musical lock-up lay a stack of boxes containing old 2 inch multi-track analogue master tapes, some dating back to the late seventies; Dennis selected some likely looking titles that never had dub treatment and arranged some time in Neil Fraser’s (the Mad Professor) studio as he knew the Prof had every gadget under the sun, there he “baked” tapes ready for digital conversion via an Alesis HD24 a 24 track, 48kHz hard disk recorder rescuing the sounds from an inevitable oxidisation process that comes with age. At the mixing end Dennis utilises a whole range of outboard gear from old analogue to the latest digital sets, explaining the unique and separate end sounds of the dubs presented on the album.

Bobby Kalphats melodica cut to the Phil Pratt production of 'What about the half' voiced by Dennis Brown. Comes in a custom stamped sleeve with a nice mix of the same rhythm on the flipside.
In the fifty odd years of the musical history of Jamaica’s popular music and the development of its styles through ska, rocksteady, reggae and onwards, time has now allowed some perspective so that the major players who created and changed styles and formed the music’s sonic backbone can be identified and recognised for their achievements. The names that come easily to mind, as far as the players of instruments are concerned, are people like Ernie Ranglin, Lynn Taitt, Bobby Aitken, Jackie Mittoo, Tommy McCook and so on, there is a whole premier league of major movers that have become familiar over time. However, hidden to those with only a casual interest is a deeper layer of musicians and arrangers who were equally key in the development of the music, such a player is keyboardist Bobby Kalphat, best known for his work with producer Phil Pratt but who worked with a series of some of the top artists of Jamaica from the late sixties through to the present day. This release features the legendary album Zion Hill Dub, originally out on pre-release only on Pratt’s Terminal imprint in 1977 and never re-issued until now; the set is a collection of a few 45s bearing Kalphat’s name as an artist plus a number of other sides where he featured as the main player, either on keys or melodica. In addition to the original ten tracks from the album a further seven contemporary cuts are added as a bonus.

The twenty ninth release on Pressure Sounds, 'El Rocker's', features one of the greatest of Jamaica's musicians/producers: Augustus Pablo; this is one of the first major re-issues since Pablo's untimely death last year. 'El Rocker's' focuses on the rhythms and tunes that were used to make up the epochal 'King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown' album. Consisting of seventeen tunes, all rare alternate cuts and hard to find gems, no Pablo aficionado's collection will be complete without this album. Tastefully packaged with a twelve page booklet with the CD and a special insert on the vinyl featuring probably the best sleeve-notes on the artist that we personally have ever seen. This album is so strong that it practically walks out of the record shop!
