The mighty Truncate crash lands on Catz n’ Dogz’ Pets imprint with two outstanding slabs of forthright techno tension. His first full single for the label, Truncate was last spotted aboard remixing KiNK way back in 2015. Now he’s making up for lost time, thumping away relentlessly like two old mates who haven’t caught up with each other in years.
‘Pressure’ takes the lead. Bouncy, stripped-back, pounding and riddled with Ovum-level acidic funk, once you’re locked into Truncate’s loopy hypnosis, you may never escape. ‘Level Up’ does exactly what its title suggests, too. Total rolling thunder with builds upon builds, there’s a sense of momentum that elevates at every twist.
And if that’s not enough, Unknown 2 The Unknown bossman and fusionist king DJ Haus gets involved with some prime remix real estate. Buckle up friends, the pressure is only just beginning to rise…

Previously spotted remixing the bossmen Catz ‘n Dogz’ 2016 single ‘Nobody Cares’ on the label, Psychemagik’s ‘Rattlesnake’ is the duo’s debut Pets single and it lives up to its deadly name. Sliding into the dance with all the stealth and funk venom its name suggests; the bite comes midway as the fatal secondary bassline kicks in with a Cobra Kai finishing move that will leave your dancefloor out for the count.
It’s loaded with two equally lethal remixes as the label welcome two more debuts from pit vipers old and new; Magda bites hard with a poisonous futuristic funk roll-out while Vyvyan continue their anonymous attack with a fantastic cosmic twist and a build up that rattles like a whole army of Crotalus. Terminal treatments slithering in all directions. Whichever viperous version you choose to wrestle with, the results remain the same; once bitten your dancefloor will indeed lose all control of their bodies… If slept on, seek medical help.

JOMO… The JOY of missing out. The premise is simple: F**k what everyone else is doing, just enjoy your own moment and make sure you’re present and not wasting time watching other people pretend their lives are amazing. Your life is the only life that counts. And right now Bawrut has come crashing into it. The man behind no less than 15 exceptional remixes throughout 2018, he’s back in full original EP mode and he’s making his debut on Pets. Let’s not waste any time…. ‘Pioneers’ kicks things off. Bawrut’s personal homage to the foundation setters; laced with a syrupy spoken word, this is all about the physical and emotional reactions from a raw house groove. It’s followed by ‘Desert Island’, a dynamic acid attack that’s riddled with rich levels of 303 funk and a healthy dose of Trevor Jackson. Elsewhere ‘Piano&Piano’ brings us back to dry land with crunchy loops that somehow manage to ooze funk, soul and staccato synth stabbed drama in equal measure… A fusion that’s accelerated insanely when the breaks kick in. Then finally we have ‘Your Job Is My Job’. Another heady maze of trippy textures and psychedelic nods, this one kicks into such a belting bassline groove midway that it will drive your crowds to such high levels of JOMO they may never want to log into Instagram again. Powerful sounds from a dangerously talented new gen talent. This is next level stuff from Bawrut and Pets.

Pets boot down the doors of 2018 with this generous five track version excursion. Five of the label boss’s most distinctive and decorated tracks from recent years get the treatment from five fittingly big names; this is how it’s going to go down… The one and only Roman Flügel takes the lead with a wonked-out trip down ‘Basic Colour Theory’ lane. With a sly switch on the kicks and full emphasis on the alien encounter feels, his trippy take on ‘Don’t’ sets the perfect creative benchmark for what’s to follow. Dig deeper for a bumping, stripped back warm and jacking twist of ‘It’s Happening’ by the currently unavoidable Rutilance founder DJ Steaw while Counter Records’ Pional breaks down their recent jolt of euphoria ‘Rave History’ and rebuilds it into a slinkier, house affair, repurposing every spine-tingle and skin-ripple Greg and Voitek coded into the original. Deeper again we’re treated to an exceptional twist of their Green Velvet collaboration ‘Keep On’ as LAWLER injects a springy, molten momentum to the elements with a salubriously loopy machine funk feel. Finally, for good measure, Jonathan Kasper wraps up their 2016 spiritual trip ‘Elixir’ with a new sense of conga-riddled, bass-licked momentum. Still reaching the highs when you least expect it to, the pay-off keeps giving and giving. A little like this whole EP. These are what remixes were invented for…

Welcome to Poland: Another country in the midst of fearful flux; where a huge proportion of the country feel their voice is no longer represented by the government; where raw emotions are being exploited cheaply by media to distract, divert and crudely divide; where there is more of a need than ever for like-minded positive souls to unite without prejudice and work together for a better future. The headlines sound too familiar for many of us in the world. But just as Trump does not represent most people in America and Brexit doesn’t define everyone in Britain, Poland’s right wing government does not exemplify the majority of Polish people. Like all world citizens, our generation and younger are good-minded, thoughtful people who do want to bring down barriers and work together. Their vision is one of inclusion and one of a proud future and how we can improve the lives of our children and grandchildren… Not become entangled in embittered roots of the past. It’s evident in Poland’s thriving creative cultures from the provocative art of Katarzyna Kozyra to the literature and poetry and films of Wojciech Kuczok. It’s evident in the stark optimist architecture of Daniel Libeskind. It’s evident in Krakow’s thriving club scene and the country’s bubbling pools of electronic music talent. It’s everything Catz N Dogz do: their attitude, their music, their labels, their WOODED festival and, perhaps most importantly, their friends. Not just there to carry you home; friends carry you everywhere. And right here on ‘Friends Of Pets’ Catz N Dogz are carrying their companions’ creativity with the same esteem and pride they host their Polish festival. A cultural statement and powerful showcase of their country’s great thinkers, creators, collaborators and disrupters in electronic music, across 16 tracks

Jacek Sienkiewicz: The Godfather! Jacek was the first ever Polish techno producer to sign to a big label and is regarded as one of the most inspiring homegrown talents for all DJs and producers. His early Cocoon releases are regarded as gamechangers and he remains true to his timeless craft. ‘Case Filter’ is a fine example; previously released on WMF in 2002, it still sounds resonant and relevant 15 years later. A personal favourite at the Pets HQ. Universo: Also known as Kixnare who’s renowned for hip-hop breaks and a series of killer beat albums on U Know Me Records. Now exploring the technoid unknown with deeply layered 4/4 dancefloor soul as Universo, it’s a whole new chapter that resonates deeply with Pets’ core. SELTRON 400: AKA Eltron John and SLG’s latest project. Eltron is an incredibly eclectic DJ who’s renowned throughout Krakow’s best clubs while SLG is a dear friend of the label and kindred spirit with Catz N Dogz, breaking through around the same time in the early 2000s. Together their SELTRON 400 project shatters the walls between all shades of rave, galvanising them for the future with timeless analog machine weight. SLG also appears on the collection under his real name Lukasz Seliga with a remix of Swedish soulmate Kornél Kovács.
