Roy Ritsma AKA Drummotive is a Dutch DJ and producer. Like Next Phase Records he is mostly known for championing Drum and Bass but much like the label he is not afraid to stray away from the beaten track and explore other areas of breakbeat driven music.
The “Coral EP” is a unique fusion drawing in influence from styles that were early inspirations to the producer. Elements of jazz, 90’s electronica and 70’s soul can be heard on the EP enriched by Roy’s trade- mark sound of ethereal atmospheres, crisp breaks and sublime bass rhythms. Each track delicately constructed to create a feeling of enchantment and wonder.
Mystical horns, captivating vocals and entrancing Rhodes compliment the rich drum work that delivers a truly mesmerising soundscape.
The EP features four tracks (three mid tempo and one drum and bass) and will be available on both digital and vinyl formats.
The vinyl release is limited to 300 copies worldwide and is supplied in a full artwork sleeve designed by label owner R. Peperkamp. Pressed by Record Industry the twelve inch was mastered by Macc at Subvert Central and cut by Beau at Ten Eight Seven maintaining the high standards Next Phase sets itself.

Next Phase Records is proud to present their second foray into vinyl with this four track EP of intricate and emotive Drum and Bass. It features exclusive new music from Moving Shadow pioneer DJ Trax as well as Enjoy, Earl Grey, Infest and Drummotive. To The Generation will be available on red vinyl with a sleeve designed by label curator Robbert Peperkamp.
On the A side Infest and Drummotive incorporate ballistic amens, reggae vocals and skank out basslines to forge a dutty slice of jungle fit for any dance floor.
Earl Grey crafts sophisticated drum patterns around heavenly chords and inspirational dialogue before launching into an accomplished section of breakbeat science.
The B side kicks off with DJ Trax sourcing inspiration from the big warehouse anthems of 1994. Soulful vocals and melodic amen patterns combine to form a joyous summer anthem. In contrast Enjoys contribution is menacing and sinister, much like the animal it’s named after. Brooding effects and ominous pads help to create a sense of fearful apprehension.

The release begins with a delightful slew of uplifting samples and colossal drums before a trademark Next Phase excursion into unconventional fusions and monstrous soundscapes takeover.
Flipping the traditional concept of a Beat Tape on its head the Wound Up philosophy is a clear one: to deliver a variety of fully produced tracks that demon - strate character, diversity and emotion whilst keeping that funk alive!

The Wound Up Beat Tape takes inspiration from long car journeys sat in the backseat whilst growing up. The sensation of watching the world go by blasting cassettes on your Walkman. A deeply personal way of consuming music these teenage experiences have never left the artists and still inspire them to this day.
Transported to a world of breaks whilst in reality sat in the back seat of your parents car, these were intimate sessions of being totally consumed in music. This tape reflects how producers from around the world, whilst having wildly different upbringings, share the same nostalgic experience.
This has spawned a wonderful compilation ranging from nineties boom bap to modern jazzy atmospherics. A wide spectrum of music held together with one common goal. Trans- porting you to your own back seat musical journey.
Like all Next Phase releases packaging of the physical product is equally important as it’s music. Attention to detail is paramount with each cassette supplied with a painstakingly hand crafted outer sleeve. These were produced by cutting individual pieces of cardboard then spraying them with paint.
A paper transfer was then layered over the custom paint job before nally scratching away the paper so only the ink and paint were left. Keeping with the nostalgic theme the supplied booklet was printed using a risograph duotone. This gives it a dated comic book feel whilst using a current digital technique.
This juxtaposition of retro and modern is one of the driving forces behind Next Phase.

The Footloose LP by Expanding Universe is a young musicians attempt to drag himself out of one of life’s little dark holes. 24 year old Dutch producer Kevin Huizing turned to music as a way of providing a much needed sense of positivity in the world.
The result is an accomplished mixture of modern electronica, classical and world rhythms all composed by someone firmly outside of their comfort zone. The overwhelming theme that holds these contrasting influences together is emotion and a desire to make things better. Natural and heart- felt. Poignant and inspirational. It’s a masterclass in transforming a negative situation into one that’s magical and full of hope.
Melodies that will stay with you for ever and compositions that truly over ow with feeling and vibrancy. The eight tracks combine to form a wonderful journey of intergalactic escapism worthy of any movie soundtrack. Taking science fiction
as inspiration if each song where its own unique character they would undoubtedly fuse together transforming into one giant laser beam wielding robot destroying negativity and saving life’s across the galaxy. Each track is great but together as part of the album they are unstoppable.
Much like the biosphere on one of the LP’s imagined worlds the Expanded Universe project has evolved organically from one man in his home studio to a live band. Members include, Remco van Dun on bass, Mark van Reusel on guitar, Rolf van de Sande on keys, Thuur Onrust on guitar and Kevin on composition and arrangement; still writing and producing with his same uncompromised view.
The album is released on Next Phase Records (NL), a relativity new label but one which has already gained a reputation for its emotionally charged music in a wide range of electronic styles. High standards are applied to all artwork, packaging and music with the vision that each component is as important.
Alongside the digital release there will also be a limited edition cassette. This features all eight tracks and has been professionally manufactured with artwork by Merel Woudwijk and graphic de- sign by Sander Huizing. Both versions have been carefully mastered by Macc (Subvert Central).

The New Moon EP is the debut vinyl release from Next Phase Records. It follows in the same tradition as their previous CD and cassette compilations delivering diver- se break beat driven music supplied in bespoke hand crafted artwork.
New Moon consists of four alternate takes on the drum and bass artform unrestricted by BPM.
Perpetual Motion alternates between intricate drum- funk and distorted amens. Seamlessly switching from ambient fx to jungle sirens and classic drum stabs the end result is an unpredictable melting pot of contras- ting drum and bass styles.
Poor Man is a gloriously deep blend of traditional dub reggae and modern bass music. Double O disregards the traditional DnB BPM creating something that is unmistakably jungle whilst managing to sound nothing like it. Modern London fusion.
Shifted Feelings is a contemporary take on early nine- ties “intelligent” drum and bass. Sophisticated drum edits, soul searching female vocals and a sublime Foul Play style transition combine to create the perfect track to overcome the stresses of daily life.
94 reflects on a time when Reinforced and Metalheadz were busy forging the cornerstones of jungle. The ul- tra-crisp breakbeats, sinister atmospherics and pitched down vocals reminiscent of that era are all present here constructing the perfect tribute to the forefathers of breakbeat music.
