martianMan returns with 4 jungle influenced tracks.
A1 “You And Me” is sci-fi influenced drum funk tune. At the beginning only beauty passes through, revealing a place you desire to be. A relaxing environment to come home from work to. Then, an abandoned warehouse in an city like in Blade Runner pumps out a rave. A jungle rave in deep space. Get ready. It’s just You And Me.
A2 “Like A Rebel” has Elvin Jones talking about his drumming. To get you started, jazz piano softly brings you into a smoke filled drum funk jazz club in space. An underlying sense of weightlessness has you catatonic in as the Funky Mule break sets it off and you’re once again nodding your head to the groove. Nice pad breakdown before the outro.
B1 “You Are Here” employs a sturdy intro with a “There are forces in this world” vocal that has you on edge. After the intro settles, before the Amen science drops, you are in a smoke filled, computer generated room waiting for your train to arrive to take you to the party. This is a journey tune so enjoy it!
B2 “Get Dropped” used Black Pearls “Cold Sweat” break. The DJ friendly intro gets you started. A little knowledge about big record labels makes you think some. Then comes the signature martianMan smokey space vibes before the drop. Tune rolls nicely but wait for the rave stabs and niceness pads during the last stretch.
martianMan returns with 4 jungle influenced tracks. “Echos” is an amen science excursion. Plenty of emotion carries this tune through your sound system and into your ears. After the dark beginning you are taken to the land of beautiful pads. Finally breaking you down at the end with some sound clash MCing before moving into the final, DJ friendly outro.
“Metaluna” is a journey like martians used to make back in the days before man. After the Dune sample intro you are taken to a funky bass underneath a most filthy break. Then you are taken to some both dark and moody pads. Then without expecting it towards what seems to be the end, an amen break comes in and the tune seems to come alive again. Vocal samples from the 1955 film “This Island Earth” come inhere and you’re journey is complete with the original filthy break reappearing with new synth darkness accompanied by a techno “bleeping” loop.
“Vikings” is an apache onslaught with a friendly reminder to never mess with Jack. The breakdown makes you screaming inside with content, only to be glazed over with the funky break that is a bit of a drumfunk vibe until it reaches the final ache outro.
“Rain Falls” uses a sample Frankie Knuckles “Rain Falls” tune and puts it under an amen. This is a chill tune for the most part, with comfortable darkness pads coming in to let you know it’s going to change. When it reaches the 129 mark the vibe changes from niceness and semi darkness to a stoned out dark vibe that lasts to the end. When the last break comes in prepare for your eyes to pop, your skin to explode, and then everybody is dead. ENJOY.
Keeping true to the yin/yang approach of his 12's, martianMan gives you a glimpse into his ever-expanding universe with the release of Vol. 3.
The impenetrable pads of Ion Storm strike the dark and uplifting in equal amounts. Disembodied chants and deep bass tremors give way to a thunderous Amen break, while hallucinatory synths swirl throughout the madness, just beyond reach. An intergalactic barnstormer in signature style.
Tracy’s Grunt, meanwhile, is built around a simple jazz loop, dripping with melancholy, backed in stark contrast to a loose, clattering funk kit. In ital comfort quickly becomes a beautiful descent into madness, where steady rhythms decay into warped electronics and bad-trip samples. A vividly painted lucid dream.
Due to confusion, martianMan 004 will follow martianMan 002. martianMan 003 will be released after martianMan 004. “Exile Dub” is an amen monster. “The Mind” is a soul pride tune, spaced out and deep. Support from Rumbleton, Double O, Mantra.
Returning from the unknown space of his debut, martianMan is back to refine his label’s ethos, continuing the exploration of sci-fi themes & deep ambience with Vol.2
The opener, “Got A Dream”, bubbles up from submerged atmospheres, as a crisp, rattling break fights its way through the fog. martianMan once again shows off his ear for textures; subtle vocals fade in and out of an entrancing, bottomless pad. A dark-meets-light journey through the cosmos.
“Amber Fields” comes straight from the halcyon days of the mid-90’s intelligent movement. A light, rolling Hot Pants break gives way to a myriad of pads, strings and bleeps, each element shifting neatly throughout the fold. Fans of the Good Looking vibe would do well to pick up this piece of subtle, understated beauty.
Somewhere from deep space, (or rather, the deep south) arrives the awaited first release on martianMan Recordings. Inspired by his surroundings in the sweltering Texas heat, the reclusive martianMan has silently been honing his craft, now building upon previous outings on the mighty Scientific Wax and Stand Firm Hi-Fi labels, to name a few. These two tunes are sure to set the standard for the label with his unique take on deep, cosmic drum & bass for the mind.
“Unknown Amen” brings forth martianMan’s signature outer-space pads, blips, and bass punctuated by a nimble Amen. The mood here is fleeting and hazy; the ever-expanding layers of ambience will make sure you never end up in the same place you started.
In traditionalist 12” style, “Unknown Space” is a chilled-out complement to its flipside. Cosmic atmospheres morph and evolve from some thick, dream-like state, flittering between smudged, restless breaks. “This is not a mind trip, this is a mind journey…”
