Already having garnered support from the likes of Mixmag and other vital taste makers around the globe, Overdue's continued onslaught is led on by none other than the highly talented, US based artist Dalek One. Keeping the torch brightly lit, the eerie soundscapes and forward-minded arrangements, spellbound within the "Witchcraft EP" serve as a perfect follow-up and yet another example of superb quality.
Going straight for the flip-side, "Witchcraft" lunges straight into a tribal encantation of overdriven tape - rhythms like water luring you towards mammoth bass surges - ecstatically driven forward by bold drums and unparalleled groove. Swaths of low
frequencies hitting your every fibre alongside enthralling percussive movements - danger of high impact on sound systems guaranteed.
Lowering the needle on the other side, "Breakthrough" does literally that. As it sets off with a rainy storm - industrious drone and thunder - metallic clangs propelling us onward into what turns out to be an absolute destroyer, full-on armageddon kind of banger. Heavily overdriven bass surges kick some sense into you as the off-kilter drums and experimental switch-ups keep you yearning for more. Minimal sound system

Finishing off this highly combustible collection of music, "Terror Strike" leaves no prisoners as its tribal atmosphere baits unsuspecting listeners into a low frequency rapture, showcasing Dalek One's intricate sound design once again.

Fellow countryman Zygos has lit the fuse for his sonically abysmal "Venery EP". A highly prolific talent, who's productions undoubtedly had a considerable impact on the scene within the last year, including various massive vinyl outings on labels such as Unity Through Sound, Rarefied or Subaltern Records & support from vital figures like Sleeper or N-Type.
OVD001 serves profound bassweight on a 12" platter, setting the tone for future releases. Garbled voice echo reverberations intermingle with sneaky percussion grooves in "Resilience" - eerie down to the core. As sub frequencies come into play the psychedelic atmosphere continues to twist itself further only to re-structure itself into a straight banger, giving way to thick midbass pulses and a dense dubstep onslaught. "Tension" heads off into coherent territory, leading the way into a beautifully broken groove held together by heavy snares, fluid drum fills and organic foley. The devious second drop reels us back in, elegantly surmising the up-tempo feel of this wonky beat.
Flipping the record for its conclusion, listeners are being met with the supreme title track "Venery", hypnotically pacing onward in a four-to-the-floor steppers style. Spearheaded by the percussive lead, we're left dazed and skanking. A full-force dubstep rave - reminiscent of underground techno, executed masterfully.

Having already released a handful of singles on NICE UP! it seemed like high time for Nottingham's Origin One (aka Kevin Thomson) to step up with his debut album. Written and produced over the space of around 2 years in the artists own Deeper Than Roots studio, the album represents a wider spectrum of roots and reggae influenced music, taking the foundations of this music and applying a modern style and sound to it, traversing dancehall, bashment, grime, jungle and dubstep along the way.
Guest vocalists come thick and fast, kicking off with Russian envoy Tenor Youthman who starts proceedings with the provoking "World Peace", then its onto Doncaster's very own Parly B who serves up his classic "Mi Bredrin" - already a staple in DJ's sets as a single. Next, Bristolian rudeboy Gardna and Congo Natty songstress Nanci Correia bless the bouncing vibes of "Nice & Easy" whilst Manchesters Peppery comes correct on the dancehall rousing "Where You Come From". Hip hop charged ganja anthem "High Grade" single makes an appearance featuring festival fire starter K.O.G. then South London's grime don Irah gets deep on the massive "My Yout", leading into up-and-coming Puerto Rican/Italian dancehall star XL Mad on the tropical leaning "My Gyal A Wine Up".
Veteran dancehall MC Spyda (probably known best for his track "Tarantula" with DnB heavyweights Pendulum) steps up the pace on the jungle soaked "Tribute", with another anthemic hook from K.O.G, then its Scottish soundsystem legend Soom T's turn to do her thing on the bumping "Jah Jah". Things get deep and dubwise on the instrumental "Dread and Buried", showing the producers range and depth of production styles, then its over to Hempolics and The Drop frontman Dandelion to wrap things up with his enigmatic vocals on the closer "Trying".
Ambitious without over stretching, fresh and modern whilst showing respect to its elders and showing deepness whilst retaining a popular sensibility, "Deeply Rooted" should take seed in dances, clubs, festival and home hifi's the world over.

The Green King Cuts family are back with the second instalment of the vinyl only record label’s catalogue. GKC providing a 4 track EP, deriving from reggae dub influences with newly Dubstep and grime sounds.
DE-TU (Chris Iona and Jevon Ives) are a London born and Bristol-based music producing Duo. Chris and Jevon, who attend University in Bristol, share the same love and knowledge for the reggae dub music and sound system culture. Both Chris and Jevon having released music digitally, on different named aliases, in the drum and bass, hip-hop circuit was only going to spur the pair on to experiment in music. DE-TU come to the surface, in 2016 with only the one sound cloud upload. This will be the pair’s debut release on any format. Bukkha (Evert) who is a music producer, originating from America but now living in Valladolid Spain, travelling the world, reflects in his sound and he is becoming one of the greats for the future.
The space in the mix between the bass and drums keeps the flow and rhythm and supplies the listener a nostalgic feel of deep meditation. The big hall reverbs of the snares and delays on the percussion create a rhythmic stepper pattern. The heavy 808 sub bass melody, is high-spirited and packs a weighty punch. Bukkha's remixes are made for the sound system dances, for people to dance because of the driving kick and baseline, urging the rhythmic pattern to never stop.
All four tracks take the listener on a journey through the influences, which has being made in the last 10 years for the dance. DE-TU and Bukkha are pivotal to the scene, driving forward the sound and love for the culture.

The long awaited EP from Messenger Douglas and Kibir La Amlak is finally ready, and ready with style. Yes, it was definitely worth the wait! This testament to modern roots reggae has cut no corners and taken no shortcuts! A large credit list lines the back of this EP, naming a plethora of the best musicians, studios and engineers that the UK reggae scene has to offer. Such as Dennis Bovell, Jerry Lionz, Ashanti Selah, Roberto Sanchez to name but a few.
Messenger Douglas is an artist in a league of his own, high musical standards are seamlessly married with deep lyrical content! The four vocal instalments on this EP showcase this marriage immaculately.
‘Real Works’ the title track of the EP, kicks off proceedings as a rallying call to anyone who knows they can do better in life. A solid roots rockers riddim explodes out of the speakers to carry the message that ‘there is no time to idle, relax or sit down, the battle can be won!’ ‘Blessings’ follows as an exploration of faith and confidence in the ever present blessings of life. As life is a journey with many ups and downs, the riddim track, especially the bassline, reflects this. Dennis Bovell’s world class bass playing shines through here, taking us from the highest highs to the lowest lows. Regardless of the position on the journey, the faith still remains. ‘Happiness’, a song written by Messenger over 30 years ago, finally finds its way onto the anthemic Joshua’s Anthem riddim, with a message as relevant to the world today as it was when it was written. The EP concludes with ‘Sufferers Tea’, a true lyrical masterpiece, that deals with the harsh and bitter realities of life as a sufferer. The hypnotic guitars, and relentless pace of the riddim echo the intensity of the sufferers life, yet true to Messenger’s songwriting genius, the song remains upful and even humorous in places.
All four vocals are followed by heavy-weight dub versions, mixed by Kibir La Amlak, in the original analogue fashion, hands on faders, spring reverbs, valve filters and an immaculate attention to detail. The tracks were mixed by Kibir La Amlak and Nick Manasseh at the Yard Studios and then mastered and cut to vinyl by Lewis Hopkins at Star Delta Mastering. The final sonic character of this EP (especially the vinyl) is huge! Warm, punchy, analogue, roots -reggae at its finest.
Both Kibir La Amlak and Messenger Douglas have a firm root in the world of reggae sound system, so it felt only natural that this EP echo that foundation with the vocal / dub format that is so richly associated with that world. The vinyl release honours this tradition with the EP coming on 2 separate 12” disks! Whether you choose to play your favourite track as a vinyl single through a sound system, or tune into the whole EP start to finish on Spotify as you cook dinner, one thing is guaranteed. You will not be disappointed!

Remy Gallet aka Quasar has been making some serious movements in the dubstep scene of late, with radio support from the likes of J:Kenzo on his acclaimed Rinse show. Here he blesses Foundation Audios new 10” hand stamped series FAVX with 2 sought after riddims that have been doing damage in the dance since their creation.
A side ‘It’s Over VIP’ is a flip of the classic Portishead tune ‘Biscuit’ - and boy, oh boy has he done the original justice and then some! The track is full of rolling basslines and percussion. Odd vocal snips from the original give space to an otherwise unrelenting track that has got classic written all over it.
B side ‘Unrealistic Voices’ with fellow Frenchman Ourman is a moodier affair with its head nodding sub bassline and eastern string melody. Full system pressure from front to back.
Quasar and Foundation Audio have pulled out all the stops on this release. Debut records don’t come much better than this, so hat’s off to Remy for this killa plate.

Hubwar is one of those artists who has been noticed by crossing the borders that previously separated IDM and bass-music. "Eikonoklastes", first album and cornerstone of his own imprint Noizion Recordz, already opens the possibilities : a subtle blend of electronica, dubstep, jungle and footwork.
If this first opus was rather cosmic, this new album brings us back to our planet, more precisely into the “Deep Earth”. In this journey with a thousand cultures, we wiggle on Brazilian rhythms with “Sambacraft”, enter a state of trance in the “Kudumbigala's” jungle, move our heads on “Northern Mali’s” trip-hop beat, regain the dancefoor on a furious dubstep entitled “Acid Ababa", get lost in the tribal drums of “Far From" and hover over the atmospheric dub of "Slow ".
In short, "Deep Earth" can be heard both on the living room turntable or on a big sound system in a dance hall.
