The Unearthed Sounds crew members have compiled their weekly picks containing collectively, in no particular order, their favourite tracks/releases of the week.
Here are the selections individually from the crew:
Probably the most respected and sought-after producer of the European reggae scene of the last ten years, Spanish genius Roberto Sánchez (Willi Williams, Earl Zero, Alpheus, Keith & Tex, Milton Henry,...) takes place behind the microphone to deliver a new album as a singer under his pseudonym LONE ARK. Soberly titled Showcase Vol. 1, this album is a collaboration between Sánchez and the Swiss band THE 18TH PARALLEL, whose playing is well known to reggae fans, since its musicians have recently played and produced some remarkable records, including I've Seen by Oku Onuora, Roots I Vision by Micah Shemaiah or Wonderland of Green by The Silvertones and Burro Banton. Faithful to the Jamaican roots reggae tradition, Showcase Vol. 1 offers six vocal tracks followed by their dub counterparts where all the creativity of the sound engineer and the musicians is freely expressed. On instrumentals at the same time heavy and irresistibly dancing, with a modern production but deeply rooted in the roots reggae sound, Lone Ark and The 18th Parallel push their listeners to critical reflection. A strong message + powerful music = a must-have album!
Well who would have bloody thought it. 20 releases on Holding Hands. That is bananas to be typing that out. It’s been a hell of a ride and I am over the moon to be able to confidently sit here and say that I still absolutely love every single release that has been put out since the first back in 2017. What a bunch of absolute slammers!
Keeping true to form number 20 comes from a new Harry Wills alias called Brazen and it does exactly what you expect when you turn on a Holding Hands release. Bendy wendy steam rollers that land somewhere between a rail of k and downing a crate of Red Bulls.
Obviously, I am a massive fan of Harrys. I run another label (Sock It To Me) with him and his previous release on HH is one of my all time favourites. When he came to me with a new alias and some fresh tunes it was a no brainers. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!
OK enough of my blather. Go and listen to the damn things yourself and decide if you like them, rather than trying to work it out from reading a bloody press release you weirdos.
All four tracks are produced and sculpted for the club. They want big sound systems and dark rooms.

The culmination of a working relationship that started in 2019, "Godless" is the first full-length release from Jonathan "Stave" Krohn (also known for his work as half of Talker on Downwards) and Thomas "Karim Maas" Cooper. After a joint live p.a. with labelmates in Bristol (suggested by UVB-76 label co-owner Nick Callaghan) a shared interest in both Birmingham-influenced techno, as well as forward-thinking bass and breaks music, led to further collaborations, with Krohn and Cooper pushing rhythm tracks and loops back and forth from their home studios based out of Chicago and Bristol respectively.
"Godless" finds Krohn and Cooper in fine form - it's a cinematic, richly detailed recording that represents some of their best material to date. After a tension-filled "Interlude", the LP kicks off with the brooding, slow-motion "Loop 002", melding scorched-earth/salted ground textures with blackened dub sonics to devastating effect. "D_A_T" follows, a throbbing industrial techno track with a mind-meltingly abrasive and psychedelic breakdown and conclusion. Side A finishes with "Blakk", a desolate, wind-swept landscape that cuts to the bone.
The second half picks up where the first half left off, with opener "track4" - all ominous atmospherics, howling feedback, and existential dread. "Project 1" and "Plan" are LP highlights here - both relentless rhythmic juggernauts that ratchet up the tension and never let up - all nervous energy and pulse-quickening suspense. The release concludes with the title track, a cacophonous and cauterising piece with evocative vocal samples and blasts of harsh noise.
Love Love continues the new LOVLTD series with ‘A Mirror Touch’ by Klotang, a collaborative work by young producers Klahrk and Otang that dives deep into the hardcore continuum pulling out huge chunks of authentic euphoria. This is rugged and raw old skool hardcore with some truly iconic rave moments, crafted with a fresh perspective - a must have for DJs intent on keeping the vibe alive.
The EP kicks off with ‘Tritium’ a whistling old skool number opening with rumbling subs before the turbo kicks in about a third of the way through. The in-yer-face rave attack vibe gives way to dreamy pads as the track continues perfect for early morning sunrise in the dance. ’Hells Bells’ is a grimier affair hinting more towards modern influences before a 180 degree midpoint switch-up settles on a stomping ’91 era rave rhythm. The final track on the A side, ‘Hyperthruster’, is big sub mover, propelled by a skanking break and vocal chops throughout, laced with darkside ‘ardcore stabs.
As the tempos continue to increase through the EP, cheeky B-side opener ‘Pressure’ brings the old skool fun. A fast and furious dance workout complete with bass bonks and synth squirts. B2, ‘Funland To Dockland’, is a piano driven vintage happy hardcore anthem pulled straight from the early 90s, whilst Rognvald amps up the choppage and takes it up in tempo for the remix on B3. 6 crucial tracks of killer rave material coming complete with artwork by East London graffiti legends Check & Race from A.W.E. [All World Experts].
