Gimme A Break Records is extremely excited to present its first vinyl release featuring four talented Leeds-based producers. With the support of the charitable music initiative Launchpad, through both mentoring and funding, alongside physical and digital distribution with Lobster Theremin we are delighted to continue to represent and support the forward-thinking electronic music coming out of the North of England.

The record’s A-side features a funk-influenced number from Bakey who continues to develop his distinctive sound off the back of his sensational releases on Shall Not Fade’s sub-label Time Is Now and recent collaboration with Sam Binga and Redders. Following his outstanding debut EP on Ba Dum Tish, Papa Nugs’ ‘Honey’ sustains his characteristically playful sampling, accompanied by crunching UKG rhythms and wobbling basslines.

On the flip side, ANSZA, previously releasing on ec2a, provides a powerful garage number with percussive breaks interspersed on the track’s second drop. Finally, Phasmid’s ‘Deadpan’, featuring the producer’s signature lilting hats, epitomises the sound being pushed in the current UKG/Breaks crossover.

Melbourne producer Pugilist hitting hard with a four track EP for these dark days.. As you may be used to by now on 3024, the artist showcases his wide ranging pallette of styles and flavors, and "Blue Planet" is no different. The title track is a slinky UKG informed dub roller reminiscent of early Shed. Acid Flange is a menacing 8am (or later) track for the deeper dancefloor or headphones. Pugilist's collab with Tamen is on a uplifting dnb tip and as a digi only extra we have "Quick Fix", a slinky Detroit electro piece.

Pushing hardcore machine music into a new paradigm, with a combination of sonics and visuals that pull from the past and future in equal measure. It’s first release; a four track EP by Mani Festo (label founder) entitled ‘Higher’ captures its essence perfectly. Fusing breakbeats, soaring rave pianos, dark-side kick drums and industrial machine funk to soundtrack post-pandemic hedonism in a way that nothing else could.

The title track ‘Higher’ is a tale of long-lost raves, written during the summer of 2020. It reflects the first time in the history of electronic music that gatherings ceased to exist. The track is hopeful, but longs for the freedom of dancing in a field, something that seems like nothing more than a forgotten memory.
