Main Phase returns for a second full-length EP on Shall Not Fade's hugely successful sublabel, the bass-oriented Time Is Now. The Copenhagen native is fresh from an appearance on Danish leftfield label Petrola 80 and can otherwise be found heading ATW records with another Time Is Now regular, Interplanetary Criminal. He serves up a tasting menu of the most quintessential sounds in UKG across Buss It EP.

The title track is understated, sparse but tense using sparing Ragga vox that build to a crescendo, wobbling over into "Our Style" - expect space age FX drawn out over mutant inflections in another textbook eyes down cut. Cheeky bassline garage energy is brought in "Creepin", while teasing breaks and dirty south hip-hop in the vocals.

Looking to the infamous early years of garage on the B-side, "Freaky" channels those classic Ghost releases in its sub-heavy intent, spicy snare and catchy vocal hooks. The EP is closed out with the expansive, gut-wrenching wobbles of "Misdemeanour", accentuated with a highly intricate two-step rhythm.

The latest drop from Low End Activist finds him teaming up with East London’s Razor for a blistering, mutant grime throwdown. Razor has been coming up for some time now, and the clue is in his name. Staggering, swaggering, diamond-sharp lines bending and flexing over LEA’s 10-tonne beat. Stepping on from past work with the likes of Filthy Gears and Trooh Hippi, this is as clear a statement of Razor’s skills as you need to hear. His versatility reaches beyond purist grime to become something more malleable – the perfect fit for the grey area of bassbin pressure LEA occupies.

On the B side, the first remix comes from John T. Gast, who dubs ‘Get Dark’ out in superlative fashion. The downcast lead lick interplays with a warm, rounded sub and Razor pings through the echo chamber for a dreamy flip of the original. Oxford-rooted producer Silas brings something more slippery to his version, teasing a weightless lead-in which drops anchor in devastating fashion around a bass that curves time and space. Low End Activism continues to yield rule breaking sonic matter ruder than the rest.

Everyone’s favourite bangin’ Brisbane duo X CLUB. ready up four typically in your face cuts of driving, textured techno on 1Ø PILLS MATE that have us dreaming of giant warehouses and sweaty hugs. Channeling big rave energy from grime, electro and breaks - and ultimately using this influence to texture their heavy sound - the pair take inspiration from the 90’s rave movement and contemporary experimental artists.

‘Turning A Blind Eye To This Nonsense’ delivers on the escapism it promises, staying true to the driven aesthetic that the duo have become known for; sirens blaring, deep atmospherics and uncompromising rave. Fellow Australian Mutant Joe is enlisted on ‘Silo’ - an acid dipped techno-electro workout spawned from the depths of hell.

The record's biggest moments arrive on ‘Beta Rays’, where both the artist's interest in sound design and sonic engineering across their respective solo projects really shines across 8 minutes of cinematic rave. It’s been a long time since we released a track from the long haired CIA joint label owner under his solo guise; the dance music legend and all round pretty damn special man, Q Project. And after not such a long time, we welcome back a young upstart, a man kicking in the back door of the D&B scene, the recently rig smashing Myth.

Here we see the two combining with ‘Demonz’. If these two were allowed to meet in a real studio to make this track, you’d need a serious X rating on the conversation going on between those four rather close together walls. We’re unable to reveal whether there was a real actual meeting of great minds or not, but rest assured the track will do as much damage as the conversations would. Fingerprints from both of them are instantly on show here for a collaboration coming deep out of left field – it’s sure to get some people talking.

The flip sees young Myth come correct with his take on the Q Project classic ‘Trouble’. Turning this early 2000’s staple into a weighty 2021 roller, Myth’s skills on the buttons are once again evident for all to see; and the package is completed with a remaster of this 20-year-old bubbler!
