DJ Swagger returns to Nerang Recordings with ‘Bass Hysteria’ this January.
Following releases on E-Beamz, Natural Sciences, and Who’s Susan, the German-based DJ Swagger returns to Nerang after appearing on the label’s ‘Freaky Friends Volume 1’ compilation earlier this year, bringing yet another bout of high quality, high energy output to the table.

Merging influences from Dance Mania through to UK Garage, ‘Bass Hysteria’ sees the DJ Swagger at the top of his game. ‘Atomic Fear’ galvanizes the pure energy of early DJ Funk, with air raid sirens and glitched out hi-hats punctuated throughout, while ‘Drybones’ nods towards early dubstep and UK flavours, with gurgling  basslines and skippy drums bubbling throughout as occasional glimmers of gorgeous synth work allow the listener to come up for air.

‘Trail of Destruction’ encapsulates golden age electro, with effected vocals, crisp percussion, and gritty basslines coming together for a late night groover. ‘Noseblunt’ is a fast-paced whirlwind, aimed for fog-filled dance floors, perfectly wrapping up the eleventh release on a label pushing diverse sounds from artists around the world.

Conveying hazy and tape-ridden notions, 'Vintage' sets us off on a groove-inducing flow with tempered chord,  lush echoes, and intimate vocal fragments.  Murderous break-beat rhythms are laid out with unequivocal finesse as the UK-based prodigy delivers heritage sounds in contemporary attire. Classic foley samples interweaved with modern sound design - engineered for the heads. 'Slugfest' commands a more aggressive tone, introducing itself with slick, hallowed percussion and haunting ambiance. With the doomsday bassline promptly kicking in, a super-charged groove armada unfolds - heavyweight business. Hypnotic drums hook into your motor cortex as every last cell of your body intermingles with the vibrant low-frequency surges, blasting from the sound system. Scrupulously switching up the push-and-pull dynamics throughout the arrangement, every sound component working at full capacity and in a supremely refined style. The young Englishman, aka Ocean Stirs and one half of Mother Of Pearls continues to reveal his talent through various releases on Dansu Discs, R.A.N.D Musik, Shadow City Records and his beautiful debut album on Lobster Theremin.

Tom Jarmey resumes this ascent with his latest EP - 'Birds of Opul' - Consisting of four tracks spanning emotive ambient, psychedelic downtempo, breakbeat and techno.

The EP opener ‘Steelo’ introduces us to a lush, textured array of fluttering synths and pads. ‘Far East’ builds on this theme, incorporating otherworldly melodies with driving drum work and samples. The B side opens with ‘Blue’, a mellow dive into pulsating chords and stripped back percussion. Closing the EP is ‘Flying Into Haze’, a fitting journey through massive ambient synths and field recordings, ending in a final, angelic crescendo."
