London-born producer FD returns to The North Quarter with his new “Lanta Nights EP”, to be released on June 12th. After his masterful debut album “Better Days”  which transcended genres through a richly detailed palette - he now returns with a morecompact piece: all killers, no fillers. Drawing influences from Dub, Hip Hop and Soul and   mixing them with his London club roots, his growth as an artist and technician is clearly shown on this diverse but signature sounding 5 track EP. Lanta Nights kicks off with two vocal tracks: the first - Lie To You - is a delicate soulful track featuring Akemi Fox,with thesecond - The Feeling - a 90’s Hip Hop inspired jam featuring KinKai. The EP then dips intorolling Dub inspired science fiction mayhem for the final three tracks. Essential listening. 

“There isn’t a theme here really, because as an artist I find it important to express myself in a wide range of styles" FD explains. “It’s just me trying to put my own spin on what forme are ‘classic’ Drum & Bass fundamentals, expressing them in a contemporary way. Back once again. This one is coming live and direct from Baltimore in the mid 90s. It is the second and final part of the Gargoyle Classics reissues and it’s packed full of juicy juicy dance floor goodness. As with the previous Gargoyle record it is raw as they come. Hitting hard whilst feeling totally impromptu and freestyled as well.

Two of the tracks are reissues from Tony & Don’s Gargoyle imprint and two of them, just like last time are never before released tracks written during the same period. Ten After 3 and Do You Believe (Space Evader Mix) are both ridiculously huge and I’m gassed outta my miiiiiind to bring them to the table for public consumption for the first time.

Stalwart German producer Jackmate signs to Herbert’s Accidental Jnr for his new EP 'Werk' out on July 3. 

Having released on the likes of Pampa, Perlon and Playhouse, the veteren DJ Michel Baumann aka Soulphiction is now reactivating his Jackmate moniker - more techy and club oriented, Jackmate first appeared in 1996 and recently resurfaced on a V.A. compilation on Ripperton’s Tamed Musiq.

Here “the Jacker” presents three deep and funky stompers that will take you straight into the summer. On the A side the jolting percussion / kick interplay of the title-track with its boiled down bassline sets the scene perfectly. The warm and jacking groove of ‘Skeletones’ conjures the best loved Moodyman-esq moments whilst the hypnotic melodies of ‘The Clarinettes’ serve to ask why there aren’t more clarinet solos gracing the world’s dancefloors?
