Foul Play is definitely a suitable title for this EP as Kessler has brought the big guns to the tea party for this one. Really getting to the heart of what Holding Hands is all about I love how straight up in the face these bangers are.

Expect a lot of gun fingers and shouts of “this one’s a stinky wiiiiiiinky” when these get dropped in the club. That’s probably the best way of describing the vibe here...

OK enough of my blather. Go and listen to the damn things yourself and decide if you like them, rather than trying to work it out from reading a bloody press release you weirdos.

Celebrating the Old Skool and the New, this EP will take you on a journey through time; revisiting some of the origins of drum and bass. We start by breathing new life into original tracks from the “DJ Syko - Be Alright EP Candidate Records (CAT004)”; re-mastering and re-engineering these 1994 classics. On the flip side “Playing with Fire” is a fresh new track; showcasing my direction for 2021. Like most artists from back in the day, I was heavily influenced by the 80s hip hop and breakbeat culture. DJs like Grandmaster Flash, Kool Herc, Marley Marl and many others showed us what we could do with the best “breaks” from old forgotten music. Hip Hop DJs and those influenced by that scene here in the UK became the first drum and bass artists. “Take a Break” revisits the Hip Hop & Breakbeat culture that inspired me back then to make music and still inspires me today. Something for the Original BBoy.

Mani Festo joins the SweetBox ranks with two acid hardcore jungle tekno A-bombs: ‘Toxic Waste’ and ‘Warehouse 2.0’.

A true man of the moment, Mani’s finely tuned productions are in high demand right now. His catalogue boasts releases for the likes of Rupture, Hooversound, WNCL, E-Beamz and the Club Glow imprint he co-runs with Denham Audio, Borai and LMajor.

His SweetBox debut starts deceptively slow, building up a head of steam via an incessant pulse and faint industrial chug. Once ‘Toxic Waste’ lets loose its slamming four-to-the-floor kick, however, it’s on a one-way train to total mayhem. Blistering breaks burst through the gloom as the track hurtles onwards like an unstoppable juggernaut, finally taking control in the form of clattering percussive carnage.

Tunes on Moonshine and Killa Sound such as "Youth Pon The Corner," “Everytime" (as Numa Crew), "Dreadlock Blues," and Ago’s "So Mi Seh" on Innamind are stone cold classics that haven’t left many selectors’ boxes since release. After a long pandemic-enforced hiatus, ZamZam returns with our 83rd release, offering two more future classics for the global dubwise sound system massive, on 7" vinyl- the original sound system format.

Coming in hard with kick, melodica, and echo chamber vocal fragments, “Spirals and Pyramids” drags us into the dance with stabs and a rubbery, buoyant bassline that’s hard yet playful, reveling in the elemental joys of the dance, community vibes spread through sound system principles: bass, reverb space, haunting melodics, and masterful frequency control. Upful steppers is the vibe, just in time for a summer that we hope brings a return to in-person sessions wherever you are.

The wholesome pleasures of the A side do nothing to prepare us for the massive weight and sound-killing heaviness of the flip, “Shot The King!” From the very first dungeon tone and bone-dry high hat holding time, the mood is pure dread and the die is cast for war. Calling out soundboys and weakheart with sound tape declaration and a thick miasma of smoky reverb, this is a tune to test sounds and bring dancers to their knees. Staccato kicks and swarming sub drive the riddim, augmented by lasers, minimal percussion, and a feeling of elated claustrophobia that only proponents of this music understand.

The Pianism EP was originally produced by Rob Haigh in 1993 under the alias ‘Splice’ on PM Recordings (Parliament Music) PMT 015 - Pianism E.P (Enter The Light). This original vinyl cut in 1993 had seven original piano breaks, as Rob described these were meant to be for DJ use. Strangely no one ever sampled these and made a new tune !? (Or at least we can’t find one!). Last year in 2020 we remixed these 3 tunes and added one unreleased tune with Syko and Rob on BSBR003 as VOL.1.  We then decided this year to invite four artists and give them the sample parts, and let them loose on producing/remixing one of the 3 pianism tracks. These new tracks would become Pianism Remix EP Vol.2. We did not let any of the chosen artists know the BPM’s or who was working on what track, or give them any guidance. Swapping the piano riff into a baseline for example would also be ok, we just wanted to let this naturally evolve into this EP, and see what each artist’s interpretation of this classic EP would be. Massive respect and thanks to Rob Haigh for allowing us to remix this classic EP from 93. Big ups for supporting our label and we hope you enjoy the remixes by Tim Reaper, Ron Wells, Law & Wheeler and Justice.
