Vitamin D returns with its second release “Dubs & Grooves Vol. 1” from Bristol’s D&G. Label mainstay Wilfy D teams up with selector Simon G to give you 4 vocal driven classic UK Garage cuts in true VITD style. A1. “Al’s Groove” blends organ bass and R&B vocals for a no nonsense summer garage slammer while “Request Line” and “Cherry Rover'' provide soulful classy garage house cuts. The B2. Leigh Delamare gets a bit naughty, a certified 2-step club roller. Does what it says in the tin - club dubs and vocal groovers!
Danny Scrilla returns for 2020 with six tracks of varying flavours for Cosmic Bridge. One of the key and foundational artists on the label, his sound is widely appreciated from forest raves to tiny basements alike.
This is a record that showcases just how diverse a producer he is without creating a sense of pastiche or hedge-betting. A record that will engage people from the opener ‘Onyx’, a low-slung swaying throwback to the days of 2011/2012 when Cosmic Bridge was cracking heads in the beats world and influencing other producers to follow suit, to the finalé ‘A Stone Left Unturned’, a nostalgic gentle number or the ‘beats to study and chill to’ fans but with production levels far above the all-too-often throwaway ‘lo-fi’ tag. The main body of the record takes in The grinding 85bpm sci-fi stepper ‘World Below’, the fast-paced Juke-inspired club groove ‘Sparks’, The space disco poolside chugger ‘Suede Suit’, and sends us all the way left to a valium-drenched underworld with the meditative and true-to-form abstraction of ‘The Undying’, again reminiscent of the labels roots in forward-thinking genre-shattering production for the heads.
‘Daybreak’ is yet another solidification of Danny’s ongoing desire to keep pushing with authenticity rather than playing to any scene or idea that isn’t his own. We are very pleased and proud to present a full-colour six track Vinyl and digital release that reflects this.
Hold tight, Cimm's back at the controls. For the fifteenth physical release and his third 12" on the revered Sentry Records imprint, the prodigious UK-based artist reveals some of his finest high-grade sound system combustibles yet. DJ Youngsta's label demonstrates how it's done once again, proceeding with the consistent stream of quality excursions and another four mammoth-sized tracks to shake a leg to and light up the audience. Super-charged, Cimm's murderous sound design in all its glory.
Hurling dubbed-out vocal fragments through the nether soundscape, 'Endo' kicks off with an infectious swing and larger-than-life attitude. Taking your friendly neighbourhood sound-boy for a wild ride and full-frontal hype apocalypse - drenched in Dub influences and murderous distortion - sure to turn heads and yield rewind requests. 'Grape Lime Ricky' takes on a more laid-back attitude, basking in its silky lo-fi pads and ephemeral lo-fi aesthetics. Granular and detuned, soulful to its core - a seemingly effortless top-notch production with Hip-Hop influences and plenty of pressure to go with it. Sheltered in its ominous ambience 'Endless Sky' unleashes an earthquake meditation, encapsulated with surreal, hypnotic sound design and bespoke foley sampling. Lurking in the percussive dungeon, reverberant horns complete the setting, in all its glory. Returning to the ancestral roots of Dub, 'Space Queen' hits in all the right spots - conveying the vital Jamaican heritage onto a modern framework, heavyweight Roots Dub bassline included. Taking over the dance with a vintage flair, retro percussion and authentic skanks - King Tubby would approve.
These run of releases on ‘Existence Is Resistance’ comes from the Legendary Proto Garage Record Label ‘Same People’, and see’s Persian & Long time musical partner DJ Texsta, repressing some of their most pioneering UKG E.P.s.
The Duo helped define the early sounds of UKG & the then unheard sound of Speed Garage, Dubstep & Grime. The Duo had massive success with records like ‘Dangerous’ & ‘Well Well Well’ which is included here.
Alongside this there’s a Special treat for the UKG Heads out there, with a previously Unreleased unheard Dubplate Mix of ‘Well Well Well’, which was recently unearthed amongst Texsta’s expansive record collection. This version is remixed by none other than the UK Techno Legend Nick Dunton under his secret ‘D Ross’ dj monika that he used back in the pirate days.
The much loved requested ‘Real Love’ gets another outing, originally being the B-Side to the classic ‘Feel Da Vibe’.
On top of all this Goodness, listener’s get treated to two absolutely killer bonus tracks from Dunton D–56M alias, ‘Homage’ which features label mate & Soul singer Decarlo (Survival Dub) in a tribute to the teacher’s of the Chicago sound & ‘Medication’ which is an inspired dystopian house chugger, with a stark warning for the New World.
These are for the ‘Collector’s’ out there: Super limited one time represses.
After the success of the first Slam Jams last year it seemed like an obvious shout to return for a second trip round the mulberry bush. This edition has two label stalwarts Breaka and Guava in fine form, slamming it and jamming it till the cows come home. Coming in at 160bpm Loose Subs is also the first track on the label to start reaching the lofty heights that all you nasty speed freaks are after. Outerbody Innerspace takes the tempo back down but in no way takes the foot off the pedal. Freaky deaky shit from start to finish.
On the second A side it is time to bring a couple new faces into the fold. Lrds from North London sent me through this absolute steam roller of a demo and it just felt so god damn right. This tune was destined for Holding Hands the second it was bounced out of his computer. Finally the man from Russia Dawn Razor comes correct with one of the deepest but certainly also one of the fattest tracks I’ve had the pleasure of releasing on the label. It’s a proper pleasure to put out a track from him as he was one of the first people to start sending me demos when the label started a few years ago. It takes a serious wallop fest of a track to cut it’s way through all the noise and this spicy number achieves that before it’s even got out of bed in the morning. Fair fuckin’ play mate.
OK enough of my blather. Go and listen to the damn things yourself and decide if you like them, rather than trying to work it out from reading a bloody press release you weirdos.
All four tracks are produced and sculpted for the club. They want big sound systems and dark rooms.
Close your eyes, hold hands and experience transcendental space flight...
Breakage returns for the fifth release on his own label Index, the aptly titled 'India November Delta Echo X-Ray' EP.
In a very short space of time, the label has become a go-to for fans and artists alike. The high-quality threshold of the label and its output has resulted in unanimous appreciation from all those listening, most notably Annie Mac who recently tweeted "Breakage. One of the best to do it."
The release contains four tracks that carry the unmistakable Index 'sound' forward once more. For the first time a guest arrives on the label in the shape of the incomparable Break for a remix of ‘As We Enter'- Break was specifically chosen as an artist that implicitly understands what Index and Breakage are all about.
The first single from the EP 'Valhalla' sets out the intention of the release. We are given that vintage Breakage sound with all the hallmarks of 2020 sonic perfection. Valhalla is the 'flag in the sand' for what the rest of the EP holds, an exciting prospect for newcomers and established fans of the label and artist.
The 8th instalment on Infernal Sounds comes from the mind of Bristol based, DE-TÜ. Intricate sound design and dubwise pressure reigns supreme throughout this three track EP, all armed and ready to annihilate any dance floor.
Shaun Bateman takes centre stage for the latest release on Droogs under both of his Nolige and SB81 aliases respectively. As Nolige, ‘The Blue Hour’ is the holiest of Drum & Bass grails – a much sought af ter lost dub dating back to and damaging dance floors for over a decade. As SB81 ‘Drone Zone’ is future-bound with a nod to archetypal Drum & Bass foundations. A dualistic release that explores two sides of the artist.
Following on from his standout album on Nite Grooves, Jozef K is back with more of his underground brilliance on the Lost City Archives Vol.3 EP.
Jozef K is a very real talent that writes across electronic spectrum, exploring dreamy, ethereal house through to atmospheric jungle and all out acid assaults. He has been releasing in this manner for years now, garnering constant high profile press support and key DJ and artist backing.
The A1 kicks off with the dark and paranoid Disintergrated, combining razor sharp breakbeats over rave stabs and atmospheric vocals. Sapphire explores a nostalgic, soft acid vibe for an introspective dance floor moment. Can You Hear Me? offers slamming 303 lines & an evil Twin Peaks vocal sample over UK hardcore inspired breaks, one for the warehouse all nighter crew. Last of all, Wrongs, ft. Manchester vocal talent Jade Parker, is some evocative, dreamy and menacing jungle with killer drums, angelic vocals and heavenly pads.
Another varied and vital EP from this most accomplished producer.
