All three have delivered absolutely elite-level reimaginations of the Workforce cuts, spanning and encapsulating the entirety of the Drum & Bass genre; from Break’s straight-up reworking of ‘Overnight Express’, twisting the DNA of the original cut and crunching up the tones of SP:MC, to the legendary Tim Reaper’s jungle reworking of ‘Two Words’, which absolutely turns the original on it’s head, and finally to the detailed, brutal but emotive take on ‘Your Loss’, delivered by Halogenix.

Rob Smith aka RSD is a man that should need no introduction - from pioneering trip hop and the foundations of the Bristol sound in the late 80s with Smith & Mighty to writing some of the biggest dubstep tracks of all time under his RSD alias - not to mention killing it to this day with his impeccable DJ sets and fire dubplates - Rob is nothing short of a certified legend. It is a great honour to welcome him back to Foundation Audio with 2 MASSIVE cuts for the next in our 10” series.

'Old Fish' is a rework of his classic 2007 tune 'Kingfisher' aptly titled 'Old Fish' 'Because it's a version of an old tune... and it stinks!!!'

'Shell Fish' was going to be called 'New Fish' because it's based on the Kingfisher template but changed to 'Shell Fish' when I added samples from Ghost In The Shell' says the man himself.

Any fan of genre-smashing sound system music outta Europe at this point simply must be aware of Schlachthofbronx. Synthesizing bass music traditions and experimentalism from their home continent, the Americas, Africa, and the Caribbean, the Munich duo are sound system staples, with a relentless (pre-covid) touring schedule and a long-running residency on the 60,000-watt Elemental Wave rig at their legendary Blurred Vision night. Absolutely no one makes omnivorous hybrid rave-club-dub-tech like the boys from Munich, and after the universal love received for their first ZamZam, “Dun Dem” b/w “Soundbad” we couldn’t wait to get into a next chapter.

The A side began life as a Blurred Vision tool, gradually molding itself into a proper tune. “Akkord” brings heavy dub reggae energy and mystically marries it to cumbia-laced accordions, an ultra-sick and darkly melodic bassline, and their patented punishing 4/4 matrix. A filtered vocal snippet warps itself into pure rhythmic texture, anchored by a clanging metal “snare” and layer upon layer of lush, saturated synths. All these elements fling into glorious, beatless suspension in full-spectrum reverb space, tension and release artistry expressed through three massive drops for the skankers.

“Shell” is driven by filtering white noise that swarms and swirls overhead like low-flying propeller blades over 808 village percussion. Throbbing single-note sub bass and fist-pumping kick form the sweltering, locked-down beat stage for Doubla J, a friend and collaborator from Costa Rica. He’s the MC in your head, liminal hype-man inside the record, at once calling for, calling out, and existing within the tune and the dark recesses of the echo chamber.

Exciting Bristol-based artist Myth debuts on Amsterdam's boutique imprint The North Quarter with his hard-hitting “Long Time Coming EP”. Both stripped-back and widescreen at the same time, the project captures the essence of the Dub & Jungle influences that are ingrained throughout the five-tracks. Myth's undeniable technical prowess and ear for an effortless groove are on display as he shows he's one of the the brightest talents in the scene today.

As Myth explains: “I think with any debut EP for a label your main aim is to showcase a spectrum of your sound and to try and make an impact so that you stand out from the other artists. With this EP I went for some straight forward club tracks with a couple of more abstract ones that still have enough energy.”

London-born producer FD returns to The North Quarter with his new “Lanta Nights EP”, to be released on June 12th. After his masterful debut album “Better Days”  which transcended genres through a richly detailed palette - he now returns with a morecompact piece: all killers, no fillers. Drawing influences from Dub, Hip Hop and Soul and   mixing them with his London club roots, his growth as an artist and technician is clearly shown on this diverse but signature sounding 5 track EP. Lanta Nights kicks off with two vocal tracks: the first - Lie To You - is a delicate soulful track featuring Akemi Fox,with thesecond - The Feeling - a 90’s Hip Hop inspired jam featuring KinKai. The EP then dips intorolling Dub inspired science fiction mayhem for the final three tracks. Essential listening. 

“There isn’t a theme here really, because as an artist I find it important to express myself in a wide range of styles" FD explains. “It’s just me trying to put my own spin on what forme are ‘classic’ Drum & Bass fundamentals, expressing them in a contemporary way. Iwant to try and retain depth and honesty in my music, something that has been importantto me in music since I first got into it.”

Close affliates of Loefah’s Swamp81 imprint with countless dubplates in circulation but few actual releases, Traces are one of dubsteps quickest rising duos.

Scrub a Dub has been showcasing some of best new talent of late from ALXZNDR, Josi Devil and Rapture 4D and Traces are no exception dropping three prime cuts on the next 12”.

Each track sounds equally fresh while reminiscent of the dubstep glory days in the mid 2000s. Mungo’s have been championing these tracks for some while and back when a dance was a thing, they were damaging dance foors!

Fresh off the back of his latest installation of rollers and heavy hitters, FD drops in for a welcome visit to CIA. Already a firm favourite of the label, the producer’s recent form has seen him consistently stepping up through the gears, firing off a volley of dancefloor weapons and soulful cuts.

FD’s latest offering sees the producer deliver three refined yet weighty DJ tools, as he helps to connect the dots between sound for the more daring listeners and selectors. As usual with his work, each track turns in different directions, thoughtfully yet powerfully constructed.

‘First Sound’ is a lesson in class and stripped back simplicity, rolling and weighty yet with a character all of its own, making for a classic DJ tool. ‘Timberline’ takes proceedings a little darker and more techno-tinged with it’s looped soundscapes and layers, while the latest collaboration between FD and Total Science, ‘True North’ brings things down a notch, yet is loaded with enough bassweight to do serious damage.
