Jet-setting Irish duo Bicep return to Will Saul's Aus label with two steady analog techno grooves ready for deployment in either their own wildly celebrated sets or those of any DJ looking for modern dance tracks that are still faithful to the classics - this is techno that hasn't forgotten where it came from, essentially.
Using gritty, vintage-sounding rhythm sections as solid foundations, each track gradually builds up its own lush, melodic embellishments overtop - "Circles" stays true to its name with a cyclical main melody, shadowy bass and fuzzy house pads, whereas "NRG106" sets spacey, dramatic chords and breathy vocals against the insistent, chittering machine percussion.
As usual these two esteemed bloggers / DJs / artists / all around polymaths prove themselves to be paragons of taste, but here it's clear that they are also steadily growing as producers, taking on different styles with aplomb and making it all look much easier than it really is.

Aus Music non-stop. Not quite content with already chalking up two of the biggest EPs of 2013 so far from Midland and Dusky, Aus return once again with yet another release you’ve been waiting for - the return of Belfast’s biggest sons, Bicep. The London-based duo of Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar had a breakthrough year in 2012, four years after the pair's Feel My Bicep blog first began. The past year has seen them play in more than a dozen countries, including major gigs across the US, China and, more recently, Australia, with particular highlights including a peak time set at Berlin’s haloed Panorama Bar and capacity crowds at both Sub Club and Trouw. In addition to the release of “You/ Don’t” on Aus, the boys also inaugurated their own imprint With the Visions Of Love EP, whilst "$tripper", which was released through Love Fever, came in at number 35 on RA's top 50 tracks of 2012 poll.
Further to that they scooped the award for DJ Mag’s Best Breakthrough DJ, supplied Tim Sweeney’s Beats In Space show with an exclusive mix of unreleased material, remixed Ripperton’s “Let’s Hope,” and all the while maintaining the DJ treasure trove that is their blog. Across the EP they take things a little deeper, delving into a different area of their own personal taste. What's presented is an overall more lo-fi style and broader approach, drawing from a wide range of influences including King Street Sounds, HBO's The Wire and Aphex Twin.

Will Saul, DJ/Producer and Aus Music label head primes the 150th release for the longstanding British label with a stellar cover of the 1990 seminal techno record of the same name by Yolanda on seminal label Underground Resistance. With the original record being one of Saul’s all time favorites and UR being a constant source of inspiration it was beyond a dream to get his version fully approved by Mike Banks to celebrate the landmark anniversary. Saul then worked with Berlin based vocalist Gilli.jpg - who has recently worked with Cinthie - to re-vocal Yolanda’s song. As a former intern at Skint in the late 90s heyday, this up-streamed anthem feels extra special finally landing digitally on the label where Saul began learning his trade over twenty years ago. The vinyl will be released on Aus. There is also a version expected later this year which see’s Saul collaborate with Paul Woolford and additional remixes by Move D and Space Dimension Controller that will land shortly. The release features artwork by Trevor Jackson, the man behind the Output label, who’s releases launched careers for huge artists like Four Tet and LCD Soundsystem to name just a few. His iconic, pop art influenced work has been seen on releases including the undisputable 80’s dance classic, Raze ‘Break 4 Love’ and S’Express ‘Theme from S’Express’.

Cinthie marks a milestone in her career this June with her debut album ‘Skylines – City Lights’ on Aus Music. Berlin’s Cinthie has grown to become one of the most respected purveyors of house music, both as a DJ and producer, in Europe and across the globe over the past few years. Through the numerous imprints she’s headed up, her productions, her soul-infused DJ sets and even her own record store Cinthie has become a driving force in the contemporary electronic music scene. Here we see the culmination of Cinthie’s career, which spans more than two decades, pieced together to make up her debut long player, a tribute to all the things that have inspired her over the years, from Chicago House to New York Garage, European rave, Nu-Disco and years of experience behind the booth and keeping dance floor’s moving. Across the project tracks like ‘Houze Muzik’, ‘Concentrate’, ‘Morning In Melbourne’ and ‘Bassline ‘shine a light on Cinthie’s true love, authentic, soul drenched and raw House music. ‘2k Garage’, as the name would suggest, also nods to her love of the UK Garage sound and cuts like ‘City Lights’ and ‘No One Can Take You From Me’ lean towards Disco influences old and new. Further additions see Cinthie exploring new territories for the album format, experimenting with a downtempo aesthetic on opening track ‘Skylines’, textural electronica on ‘Flashback’ and Acid House nostalgia on ‘Calling’ and ‘Horizon’. ‘Skylines – City Lights’ beautifully showcases the life and inherent passion for electronic music Cinthie has, all perfectly weaved together across twelve compositions.

Inside Out is a brand new series that invites DJs and producers to blur the boundaries between traditional artist albums and mix compilations. Coming from Aus Music label head and DJ-Kicks curator Will Saul, the concept encourages artists to showcase their own music and or the music of those in their own individual circles. The mix will be release digitally and on CD, while a selection of the tracks will also be available on double gatefold vinyl. Each instalment will feature 100% new and unreleased music. It is a chance for artists to take sole creative charge, A&R as they see fit and then commission brand new music specifically for the cause. Depending on who is at the helm, Inside Out will take different forms: producers may wish to represent their own sound with only music they have made themselves or with close collaborators, while DJs and label heads may wish to reflect the sounds and scenes that surround them. The results will be a window into an artist’s world that works as a coherent mix, but also as a treasure trove of fresh new music that steps outside the usual lines of a dance album. The idea stems from Will Saul’s own approach in the club, which often finds him seeking out brand new and unheard music to play for the first time. That feeling of taking people into the unknown is one that reminds him of the energy and excitement of his early days as a dancer.

Marquis Hawkes marks his fifth release for Aus with another classy 2 tracker titled, 'The Phoenix' (Part 1 and Part 2). The Phoenix follows up summer hit 'The Basement Is Burning' which saw Midland, The Black Madonna and Gerd Janson all supporting at festivals worldwide. The Phoenix is two takes on one concept.
Part One takes the Disco and House amalgam which Marquis has developed in recent times to it's logical conclusion, perfectly walking the tightrope between joyous abandon and classy depth, and giving DJs the perfect weapon for all floors, from sweaty basements right the way through to much bigger dancefloors.
Part Two then flips the program with the same raw materials and sets up the perfect shot, directed at a big room House/Techno crossover, building on the foundations laid by the Detroit techno originators by infusing contemporary production values and a more modern twist.
The Phoenix is something of a landmark EP for Marquis Hawkes, once again redefining his sound. We can't wait to hear what he does next.

'Primitive Trust is the coming together of two experienced musical minds. In one corner is Will Saul of the influential Aus Music empire, and in the other is Tom Mangan, aka Tee Mango, the producer who started Millionhands record and clothing label. The pair met many moons ago and reconnected recently at a festival in Morocco. They bonded over music, lunch and shared family travails - and as they both now live in Somerset decided a little local studio collaboration seemed all but essential. Between them, these consumate country gentlemen have seen plenty a musical styles come and go, so decided their best route forward would be to make music to please themselves. To that end, they holed themselves up in Tee Mango's woodshed studio with the following ground rules: they would make music only with the gear they had (MPC 2000, Ableton, Roland 101, Juno, Fender Rhodes, various FX pedals) they would trust their instincts and go with first feelings they would embrace the joy of randomness if in doubt they would ask 'What would Carl do?'
With that, you have the simple but effective MO of Primitive Trust. These sessions have resulted in a series of three EPs to be released over the course of four months. Each EP will feature 2 or 3 original tracks and one fresh remix, with unique artwork and an illustration by all-around visual auteur Geoff Mcfetridge. Using the building blocks of house, and classic techno Primitive Trust can do zoned out and romantic, as much as driving and heady, but with an ease that comes from experience, years in the making. While tipping their proverbial hats to the past they also look to the future with their sound, mixing samples, wigged out synthwork and propulsive rhythms to create something honest and heartfelt that will stand the test of time'

Next up on Aus Music is the welcome return of a good friend and label regular - the ever ascendant Marquis Hawkes. Having released 4 EPs on Aus thus far, he makes his return in the form of a blazing, floor-focused 2 track EP which sits neatly with previous outings on the label. 'The Basement Is Burning' takes it's name from a near-fateful experience stemming from an electrical fire in Hawkes' home which culminated in him and his family being evacuated from a 5th floor balcony.
Having ensured the safety of his family, he made a dash across Berlin to make a 10am live show, a few days later with the power back on 'The Basement Is Burning' was born. The title track kicks off with splashy, live drum samples that are armoured with electronic layers before a feel-good piano lick glides into the mix. Bursting synths are introduced before ducking strings chords bring the track to an ecstatic conclusion. 'Tower Block Boogie' then tumbles short funk samples through bold drums as a fervid sense of tension burns throughout.

Next up on Aus Music is the return of label boss Will Saul working alongside long term label favourite Komon. Together the duo line up ‘Harmonise’ - a smouldering single that comes backed up with an almighty pair of remixes from Osgut Ton mainstay Nick Höppner and analogue aficionados Juju & Jordash.
The title track kicks things off with glowing, interweaved synths and a pattering tom line.
Vocal snippets and trippy delays suffuse a purposeful bass tone before the 101 Dub Version rolls out with punchy drums and a sharp, darting acid line.
Berghain regular Nick Höppner then does what he does best with his remix in building a rich, hypnotic groove that steadily develops with intricacy and depth. Dekmantel and Golf Channel regulars Juju & Jordash then drive a warped, rumbling synth line through spacey atmospherics rounding off another fine addition to the catalogue.
