Albion Collective ends its single-digit days with soundsystem vanguards, LSN. Joined by AxH, the trio carve pathways in raw weight, deep progression and colour-submerged rave in ALBION009.
‘I Don’t Know What That Means’ grinds the earth to a halt. Silence suffocated by sub-bass effervesces with ghetto sirens, otherworldly electronic languages and London’s post-apocalyptic soundsystem underground.
‘Oscillator’ wobbles, ritualistic in its Far-Eastern, off-kilter melodies and occult lyricism. Tribal, patient steps and expansive world-percussion draws the dancefloor together on a higher plain.
The pre-eminent AxH joins LSN on the EP’s flipside, pouring grit into the bio-mechanic mixer of ‘Gone For Never’. Distant cybertronic growls stretch deep into heavyweight caverns. This collaboration hits as hard as it progresses, sure-fire for deep-rolling nights and drop-after-drop sessions.
Picking up the pace, ‘Rubberhands’ unveils neon tendrils and a slimy neurofunk appetite. The ready-to-rave half-time drumbeat and gun-finger-raising bleeps coincide with rough twists-and-turns into teeth-gritting mosh pits.
Albion Collective has established itself as a forefront 140 imprint over just nine releases. LSN and AxH round off the label’s formative years in style, before it plunges deep into double digits with ALBION010.

Traces have carved out sub-heavy pressure deep within the grooves of their Albion Collective debut. Submerged in mystical koto-strings and underworld 808s, 'Adapt' and 'Renshi' evolve from the origins of dubstep.
The A-side, 'Adapt', respectfully lights each candle of the soundsystem church before rolling through deep and minimal; pin-drop metallic ambience echoes across misty roots.
All-of-a-sudden drum fills and on-the-nail percussion riddle a koto-driven landscape in 'Renshi'. Razor-sharp drums and cascading bass highlights the B-side's martial art movements.
Honouring their label debut, Traces release two forward-thinking tracks, smothered in sub-pressure on Albion Collective.

Listen! Lord Jabu synthesises 64-bit dream-ware with solid-state trap in his crystalline 3-track release, ‘Yagoda’. In ‘Folklore’, colourful cubist polygons dance beneath festival-drunk Hyrule twilight. ‘Threehead’ goes grim, watching purple-skinned ogres bang distorted djembes in the lost woods. ‘Yagoda’ burrows deep, plucking the melodic soul of an abandoned young hero with no way home. Albion Collective's first record release of 2019 celebrates the return of Reso to the dubstep arena, with his four track 'Focus inwards EP', featuring a version from TMSV.
Reso's title track Focus Inwards lures your senses in to a hypnotic state. A hollow, pulsing bass tears through the low end whilst sparkling drums and percussion punctuate a vivid and diverse rhythm, a soundtrack to an outer body experience. Immaculate production.
TMSV lifts the pace with his progressive tribal edit. The addition of woodwind and rolling percussion dance around the acid-step vibe in keeping in vibe with Reso's trip-out OG. Festival music.
The flip opens up hard with Smashed Up. Obnoxious dancefloor-dubstep to be played at high volume. Heavy rolling subs, whips and spirals. Bone-fide club banger.

No stranger to the Albion imprint, Louis Robson returns with 2 heavyweight originals fit to knock the socks off the hardiest of dubsteppers. Chunky big-bass roller 'Old Like Dirt' dons the A side and a revamp of the long awaited, bone crunching Taiko classic 'Panchaea' pressed to the flip. No shortage of lively switch ups.

Arriving at the scene of the crime, the notorious vinyl imprint Albion Collective untethers their next musical drive-by in style. Keeping steady with their tradition of meticulously well-crafted releases, after a fulminant outing of Stepper’s finest Digid & Dubbing Sun, Egoless on version duty - the label welcomes UK’s heavy hitter Glume and Slovenia-based bass conjurer FLO to their roster.
The Bristolian talent has been causing waves within the scene with productions, that inevitably find their way on to wax and sound systems all around the globe - taking the reign for the A- Side with the murky, sonic weaponry - aptly titled ‘Thug’. For the flip side his fierce production style is joined by FLO, who’s innovative approach to Dubstep has yielded support from the likes of Noisia, Mala and Joe Nice among others. Already having reached dangerous levels of aggregated bass weight, one more exceedingly capable individual enters the ring. On top of his game, accomplished and highly regarded producer Sepia treats the collaborative track from Glume and FLO ‘Skateland’ with a ridiculously heavy remix.
Inducing a state of hypnosis, ‘Thug’ appropriates your attention as oriental string arpeggios whirl up ponderous drums, setting the pace for a journey through low-frequency trenches, accompanied by vocal ramblings and Gangster wisdom, as well as a true-to-the-roots approach of its sonic nature and dance-floor-affine arrangement. ‘Skateland’ emerges out of dreadful depths, unleashing a sound system stomper of massive proportions, akin to opening Pandora’s Box, built up from the ground to kill every sound bwoy on the other side of the control tower. Sepia’s remix takes an equally sinister form - gradually increasing in intensity, unadulterated low end taking the cake alongside his characteristic, minimal instrumentation in full effect.

Serving avid listeners around the globe with ample amounts of quality bass weight, Albion Collective untethers their third, highly anticipated vinyl installment. The U.K.-based imprint has quickly grown to showcase a multifaceted approach to Dubstep - releasing prime selections driven by low frequency oscillations. Ranging from Vaun & Jafu’s jazzy reverberations with J.Sparrow on contemplative version business to the experimental dancefloor music of talented producer Taiko - their return to the spotlight amasses a dream team of Dubwise visionaries - Digid, Dubbing Sun and Croatian bass wonder Egoless, contributing a version. Based in Belgium and Austria respectively, Digid and Dubbing Sun have swiftly ascertained themselves as one of their countries leading figures in Dub-affine bass music with joint vinyl releases on J:Kenzo’s Lion Charge and Archetype Records among others, as well as successful solo projects, such as Digid’s recent ZamZam Sounds debut and Dubbing Sun’s own quality vinyl-only imprint.
Emerging through pristine and crystal clear sound, Digid’s ‘Rainbow Dub’ kicks off the record in a colourful exhibition of livid chord stabs and melodies, minimal percussion tastefully appended. As low frequency oscillations set the air in motion, listeners find themselves in a true-to-the-roots modern dub extravaganza, skanking: mandatory. As is customary ‘Come Dung’ allures listeners as the expertly crafted fusion of version and original business that is is, hurling another massive rhythm, accompanied by a lively arrangement, that does the pioneers of the old days justice.
Coming together for the flip-side, Digid & Dubbing Sun crafted a roots earthquake of tremendous proportions. ‘Dread Come Again’ has come to conquer keen sound systems all over as anthemic brass stabs echo along the dub-infused soundscape and a monumental bassline hauls both its weight and groove to every last fibre of your body. Last but in no conceivable way least, the recent Deep Medi and Tempa signee Egoless turns ‘Dread Come
Again’ on its head - stripping the music down to its warbly core of rhythm and bass, drenched and covered in shifting spaces and creative usage of his varied palette of analogue effects - a mind-bending version, worthy of the anthemic original.

Sheffield DJ/Producer Louis 'Taiko' Robson has consistently agitated the boundaries of dubstep music, manipulating eclectic influences in to his productions with bold, original arrangements, intricate percussion, experimental instrumentation and unforgettable subs, and he’s not held back with ALBION002.
Title track Splinted dons the A Side of the release and sets the standard high with its heavy sub, percussive melody, and string lead. Robson has taken inspiration from contemporary orchestral composers such as Terry Riley and Steve Reich initiating the creation of the drums and percussion, which add a rich analogue sound to the track, and with that an almighty atmosphere. Folk-like scratchy strings take the lead which is a theme set for the EP and highlights Taiko’s tenacity for sound design and disregard for convention. Each eclectic element of the track compliments the next resulting in a guttural, energetic dance floor cut, with dark undertones making the listener feel agitated or anxious. A pulse raiser strictly for sound system use.
Over on the flip side, starting with the outer, Taiko offers a much warmer vibe throughout Fractal, flexing another experimental set of instrumentation, this time round building rhythm with an accordion sample. An enormous rolling sub bass instantly becomes dominant after the short intro and meticulous percussion exaggerates the astounding impact from the drums. In the break expect a much murkier tone with a grimey string sample leading to the second drop. Robson achieves a certain level of feel-good whilst maintaining a dark and aggressive tone in his unmistakably raw track.
Nickel takes the inner side on the flip, following form to the prior with its accordion sample adding a distorted guitar drone for the melodic intro. The acoustic instrumentation couples up with irregular drum work solidifying the EP’s ‘live’ aesthetic, whilst maintaining a dance floor orientation. Tonnes of energy meets masses of bass, Nickel is a recommended set opener and a great close to the EP.

Following almost two years of driving bass music promotion, in the form of compilation albums, free download round-ups, reviews, guest mixes & mix series CDs, the time has come to transcend from what first began as an online blog into our very own music label. After working with renowned artists such as El-B, Quest, BunZer0 and Phaeleh, as well as fellow promotional platforms FatKidOnFire & Deeper Vibrations - the Albion community has developed and grown to become recognised across the board of the bass music spectrum. This extension of our brand will help in pushing this music even more, enabling us to curate a fundamentally diverse sound beside the culture that we so passionately enjoy.
The launch of Albion Collective Recordings is to be set in motion with In Pieces, a collaborative down-tempo effort conceived between Vaun and Jafu which is radiant in textural soundscapes. This particular piece has been doing the rounds as a clip on Deeper Vibrations' YouTube channel since 2013, inducing longing excitement for the song to finally surface.
Bristol based Daniel Brown, aka Vaun, has prospered into one of the scene's most prolific producers, covering multiple styles and turning out numerous releases for MindStep Music, Redshift-One and Soulstep Records. After recently hinting at the imminent release of an album, Brown can also reap in the keepsake of ALBION001 alongside Canadian artist James Fuller, aka Jafu, who likewise has blossomed astutely alongside his soulful Chord Marauders collective.
In Pieces falls somewhere amongst immersive trip-hop and jazzy 2-step, an affectional arrangement that makes wonderful use of Marvin Gaye's a cappella in his classic Sexual Healing. The composition will certainly induce healing of the cerebral kind, with its stripped and delicate percussion work, dubbed out horns and soothing string sections. Encapsulated within Vaun & Jafu's musical offering is our label's statement of intent. That is, to champion unique music that emanates elegance such as this collaboration - and such as J.Sparrow's remix treatment.
Ryan Wild aka Jack Sparrow, a Deep Medi Musik signee and one half of dubstep extraordinaire duo Author, has granted the scene with his tenacity to build profoundly stunning electronic music. Wild has the tempo notched up for his In Pieces edit but remains true to Vaun and Jafu's approach in the sense of its lavish spatial touch. The atmospherics breeze over with a soft vibrancy, as the electronic guitar solo recording from the original plays over the initial main section charmingly. This is all resulting in a simply sumptuous mix which goes right up there with his top drawer remix work for Annie Drury and De Niro & Y.
To compliment J.Sparrow's sublime contribution and to also complete the package, the Black Butter Records assosciated and Bristol-based outfit Sly-One have whipped up an outright banger of a remix. Joe Cannon, Dave Constant and Oliver Read can already boast an admirable set of releases in the four years since they've joined forces, featuring on Shifting Peaks, Lost In Translation and 877 Records. Add that to a rude collaboration with fellow Bristol head & rasta emcee Buggsy and a remix for Bad Mojo on Meanbucket, Sly-One had clearly meant business from the offset - and have shown absolutely no let up for us at Albion Collective. Served with a side order of the trio's classic subtle cowbell hits, their 2-step/bassline fusion works wonders with the vamped-up vocal sample and is ready and waiting to rumble clubs & festivals for this summer and beyond.
