2019 marks the return of Austrian electro duo Microthol with the project's first EP in 8 years. Don't be fooled by its unassuming title: 'Transmissions' is the culmination of years of sonic research. From techno-esque opener 'Hostile Invasion' to 'Transmission 0604's soundtrack of a burning space ship spiralling out of control - 'Transmissions' is much the sonic equivalent of a wormhole linking the aural orbits of Ultradyne and Autechre.

Label boss Perc returns to Perc Trax for his first full release since his career defining "Bitter Music" LP in May 2017, an album which featured the infamous "Look What Your Love Has Done To Me", one of the most played techno tracks of the year and Perc Trax's best selling track to date.
Conceived as a response to the endless stream of rip-off's, rehashes and re-edits that track spawned "Three Tracks To Send To Your Ghost Producer" strips back the vocals and melodic elements that characterised Bitter Music to present a raw, rolling, heavily percussive sound. Kick, toms and hi-hat rhythms play off each other whilst interlocking with the solid kicks that propel each track forwards.
From the spitting acid stabs of "Toxic NRG" to the brutal drop in "Driller" the three tracks are overflowing with the kind of in-yerface attitude that marks out the best of Perc's productions. Together they form an EP which once again highlights him as one of the UK's most forward thinking techno practitioners.

"This is an EP i have made entirely with the iconic Emu SP1200. i've bought it years ago and it was still relatively cheap, and i've been in love ever since. The real trick of this sampler is the easy and fun interface, added with the unique sound. This EP is a live jam recorded as separate tracks then mixed in logic." Deep88

Peter Van Hoesen launches his new Center 91 imprint with a four-track EP. Opal Balance is the inaugural EP on Peter Van Hoesen's new Center 91 imprint, which will host a series of releases in 2019. Via this newly launched platform, Peter Van Hoesen looks back towards his own experiences of the late 90s Belgian underground, extrapolating references from the intensity of the Brussels warehouse raves which continue to influence his practice as a producer, DJ and live performer. The Opal Balance EP features four hypnotic, disorienting techno cuts with a subtle nod to Belgium's classic rave tradition. Rapidly mutating sonic disturbances and frantic leads are driven forwards by angular percussion and sweltering sub bass. Whilst there are elements of nostalgia here, Peter keeps his aesthetic firmly grounded in the contemporary, applying his trademark high-end sound design to the microscopic details of each production. Opal Balance re-examines fragments of the late 90s techno scene, distorting their characteristics in expertly carved acoustic spaces to forge a highly effective package.

Dorisburg returns to Boss records with a high quality tight modern club release as we would expect from him!. On the A-side 'Internet Tension', he weaves an augmented and hypnotic sonic fabric. Straight forward grooves merged with enigmatic melodies that leads your mind to abandoned server rooms and haunted programming code. A more elaborated rhythm is what hits you at the flipside with 'Rytm804'. Spacey and percussive drumming paired with lamenting bells and emotive harmonies constitute a hymn that's otherworldly. Sonic landscapes that evoke feelings of futuristic seances and interstellar shamanism. Another strong Boss Musik release!

Pessimist has never been afraid to push the boundaries of what might loosely be referred to as drum ’n’ bass, but never has he been so willing to deviate as on this new EP for Osiris.
The record opens with ‘New Age’ — a hypnotic pulse that gradually layers up over crawling beats, before disintegrating into the glacial ambience of ‘Kabadaro’, with its inner-rainforest atmospherics and barely-there rhythms. Flipping sides, the eponymous ‘Austerity’ scurries along with nervous energy and hi-hats that offer the only glimpse into the artist’s junglist past, before JK Flesh steps in to serve up an utterly brutal reconstruction of ’New Age’. Finally, everything is brought to a close in the shape
of ‘Progression’, a short-and-not-partiuclarly-sweet drone that feels like the whole tale collapsing in on itself, returning — almost — to the sepulchral tone the EP opened with.
If you had Pessimist pegged as an artist comfortable exploring the outer reaches of bass music, consider this release affirmation that he's well and truly crossed the frontier — and that the five cuts here represent the newest transmissions sent home from this unknown and beguiling territory.

By now you must be already familiar with Qual being the solo project of William Maybelline, one half of the Lebanon Hanover duo. When William first stepped into the scene as an individual artist back in 2014, he declared the intention to explore the very grimmest areas in synth-based music. While Sable debut LP was unapologetically gothic in subject matter and sound, Qual’s most recent and uncompromising outputs of Cupio Dissolvi EP and last year’s album The Ultimate Climax merge the despairingly freezing properties of 90s EBM with the more aggressive sensibilities of industrial techno without ever diluting the intensity of either. Brand new 4-track EP Cyber Care is the perfect synthesis of both these aspects. On A side the slither of the title-track and the mechanical assault of Inject Your Mind will make you feel the hardest, most vicious side of Maybelline’s creation. B side’s I Have To Return Some Video Tapes and Motherblood will toss you into a ice-cold galaxy of paranoia and disorientation.
This is not an appealing world, as Qual is impossible to listen to half-heartedly – it will drag you by the jaw and butcher you in a dirty alleyway.

Purely by coincidence, the 2019 Horo schedule commences in the same way as 2018 - with a release from Parisian artist Von Grall. Following up his debut LP ‘Infinitum’ for the label, the Three Waves EP probes new depths in shimmering, rhythmic obscuration.
Seemingly constructed under a thick sheet of fog, Three Waves is immersive Techno with taut, granular waves winding through it’s construction, adding emotive touches sparingly, but with precision potency.

b1. Von Grall - Vanquish The Disparities
