Cult favourite Submorphics delivers his long awaited debut album “Kodak Dreams” on Amsterdam imprint The North Quarter. 15 year veteran producer Greg Axelrad has been one of America's premiere exports when it comes to Soulful Drum & Bass. His unmistakable 'smoked-out' take on the genre has made him a fan favourite for years. After his The North Quarter debut “Detroit Haze” early 2018, he now returns with his most ambitious project yet: “Kodak Dreams”. Written during a time of great personal highs and lows, his debut album is easily his most personal body of work. The Michigan native drew inspiration from his transatlantic journey and childhood memories to paint this musical memoir.
'Inspired by the treasure-trove of nostalgia I brought with me from Detroit, I plugged away at my own brand of D&B, hip-hop and neo-soul music in my new studio in the city of The Hague.' Submorphics explains. 'Cherished childhood photos reminded me of my roots: funky breakbeats and lush soul samples that I blasted out of my cheap boombox long before I knew what a sampler was. These old photos ended up deeply inspiring the album sessions, and even started permeating my dreams as I slept each night.”
A multi-genre piece that features vocals from frequent collaborators Big Brooklyn Red, SelfSays, T.R.A.C. and Christina Tamayo, brings together Soulful Drum & Bass and LA / Detroit flavoured Beats with an easy elegance. The album offers a glimpse into Submorphics' past, present and future and is brought together by snippet-sized, Polaroid-inspired narration, his personal Kodak Dreams.

Deep Heads are proud to present ‘Hope & Light’ - The Remixes by Zeb Samuels. Pressed on beautiful, clear 12inch Vinyl with full colour sleeve and with remixes from some amazing artists from around the globe.
On the A1 cut is none other than Om Unit, who flips the original of the track ‘Hold on’. Mr Unit takes the original Piano hook and puts some serious weight behind the drums and baselines to give this remix a classy drum & bass twist. The remix contains a very distinct Om Unit flavour and is a collaboration of the highest order.
For the A2 cut is a Deep Heads favourite, Nottingham due Congi. Congi have stripped back the vocals for their remix and added their signature sound. The beat work is remarkable and all round production is impressive. A fantastic display of what these 2 talented producers are all about.
Then on the flip side and for the B1 is the one and only Ash Walker, with his interpretation on the track ‘Stars Glow’. Ash pitches down the original vocal and takes this remix somewhere far away from this planet. It’s gritty, twisted and bursting at the seems with low frequencies.
The beats and hard and punchy and is certainly one for the sound system crew. Finally for the B2 side is LA based producer Feverkin. We’ve had our ear on this talented man for a while, so is a honour to have him giving us some of his Feverkin flavour. His remix of ‘Night Wave’ is exactly what we were expecting from him and does not disappoint. He adds some signature 2step beats and sounds that can only be described as Feverkin, but keeps some of the original energy and mainly vocals for this incredible remix.
DRS & LSB, two of the most exciting artists in drum & bass today, introduce 'The Blue Hour' on LSB's Footnotes label. A unique, full length LP collaboration that draws together their shared musical influences of jazz, hip hop, indie, classical, 80's and of course D&B.
"We've been writing music on and off for the last 5 years and following on from the Space Age mixes we did online we felt it was a good time to do a full release together. Initially we just considered doing an EP but then went on tour in America twice in 2 months in early 2019. During this time we had 5 days off in an apartment in Dallas. So we borrowed a sound card and using Del's tour mic began writing together. We got 6 tracks written and took them back to the UK to be developed into final versions.
It was then that we thought we may have an album on our hands and as we both wanted to really grow as artists, push beyond what we've both done before...so The Blue Hour was born.
You'll hear DRS pushing his voice a lot more, personal lyrical content, experimental arrangements and live instrumentation that all combine inside and out of the D&B sphere to make an album we're immensely proud of and hope people enjoy listening to." - LSB 2019
Zeb Samuels & Deep Heads are proud to present his debut studio album 'Hope & Light'.
The London born and based producer and multi-instrumentalist Zeb Samuels is delighted to present his first studio album 'Hope & Light', featuring exclusive collaborations with some of the standout artists and musicians he has worked with over the last decade.
The culmination of Zeb's professional experience and creative exploration as a composer, producer, sound engineer and performer, Hope & Light is an intense and insightful journey into the mind of an inspired multi-instrumentalist and musical fanatic.
Produced and creatively directed by the artist, Hope & Light is richly inspired by his past collaborations and wide-ranging influences. Featuring Zeb on keys and synths, and layered with his characteristic vocals, the album possesses an energy, maturity, warmth and texture that neatly encapsulates his ability as songwriter and album maker.
Hope & Light features appearances and input from an array of musical talents, including Synkro (R&S Records), Escapism Refuge, Om unit (Metalheadz, Cosmic Bridge & Planet Mu), Ash Walker, pianist and composer Joe Armon Jones (Ezra Collective), drummer Mck Nasty (Kamaal Williams & Black Focus), and prestigious jazz trumpeter Byron Wallen.
Like Zeb and his many of his collaborators, Hope & Light defies categorisation, touching on multiple genres: jazz, ambient and bass among the strongest elements. Though Zeb himself would probably describe his music jazz, alluding to his love of improvisation and the freedom of movement within each composition.
Zeb's music has already been supported on BBC Radio 6 Music, Clash Magazine, Magnetic Magazine, XLR8R, Kid Fonque's 5FM, by Belgium Tastemaker Lefto, Soulection Radio's Joe Kay and as a producer, he has worked with some of the most prestigious names in the music industry. As a label manager, he has released works from Ash Walker, Synkro, Djrum, Escapism Refuge, Lewis B, DFRNT, Congi, Geode, Versa & Rowl and Vivek.

The North Quarter's latest signing - is a multi-talented artist emerging amongst a new wave of Manchester excellence. Textures, the lead track from his forthcoming debut album Kaleidoscope, has been a favourite in Manchester's underground for some time now.
With long time collaborator HMD on the hook Textures is an undeniably catchy example of contemporary Hip Hop-Soul. A sneak peak to an honest and introspective gem that will undoubtedly make Abnormal Sleepz a household name in the UK.

Coventry’s second son of Drum & Bass returns to UVB-76 Music for his first release on the label since 2017’s ‘Pathos’ EP. Two years on, and four tracks strong, ‘The Last Men’EP delves into the darker caverns of modern jungle, tethering howling pad works to a sturdy hull of abrasive percussive rhythms.
Coarse high end peaks are trussed against bottom end vibrations which are fixated to the ground as three tracks are firmly rooted in the dance while a fourth track is the fallout at trip hop tempo.
The second release in the DJ's Choice series comes up again to shake your summer dancefloors! This time, the label meets New York City and heads back to old-school hip hop with a 7" featuring the amazing MC Illspokinn!! The Rebel has been recording musicians to give him a fat instrumental, and the result is a tune that sounds fresh and funky!!
On the flip side is a B-Boy version of the track produced by the one and only Nickodemus – one of the most versatile producers in New York and a world-renowned DJ. The cover of the vinyl also features hand-drawn artwork by Italian graffiti master One Opium!! Limited Edition 500 of copies and distributed worldwide by Four Flies Records.
We're proud to present the latest instalment from Children of Zeus, back with an addendum to their acclaimed debut album 'Travel Light', here's some 'Excess Baggage'.
A 7-track collection of tracks, five appearing on vinyl for the very first time, along with a double-header of remixes from Zed Bias, previously only released on a limited edition 10". This is an assortment of cuts plucked from the trio of full-length releases from 2017-2018; the afore-mentioned LP 'Travel Light', the loosies compilation 'The Story So Far', and the mixtape 'The Winter Tape'.
An edit of the feel-good, heads-down bruk track 'Vibrations' sets off the EP, produced by K15, before we get into Zed Bias' take on proceedings with his UKG dancefloor smasher from late last Summer, followed by Zed's heavy remix of the first single from 'Travel Light', 'Slow Down'.
The flipside begins with two of the standout cuts from 'The Winter Tape'; '10 Toes' features Mancunian newcomer HMD on the hook, whilst Konny Kon & Tyler Daley trade bars on some future soul sci-fi boom bap. This is followed by the ethereal R&B stepper 'Ghost'; a bit of a fabled Tyler Daley fan favourite from the archives.
Next, the track that effectively bridged the gap from 'The Story So Far' to 'Travel Light', the Sunset Version of the anthemic 'No Sunshine Tomorrow', before we get into the killer quiet storm closer, 'I Want You', aka the slow jam that wasn't on the original 'Story So Far' vinyl EP.
This EP is a snapshot of Tyler & Konny's various projects over the course of the past year or so, and exemplifies the eclectic approach they've become known for within their own unique pocket of hip hop and soul, which has rightly seen Children of Zeus garner acclaim from a variety of DJs, fans and artists alike.
Since the release of 'Travel Light', the duo have been doing exactly that, continually on the road performing shows across the globe, and are about to commence the second leg of their UK tour, before a busy Summer of festivals, and sneaking into the studio when they can. There's always a bit of room for some 'Excess Baggage' though. New music ready when it's ready, but for now, here's another essential piece of Zeus wax for the collection.
Led by Saxophonist Rob Mitchell, Abstract Orchestra have been a consistent presence on the u.k. music scene, touring constantly in the promotion of their debut LP "Dilla" and follow up 45 "New Day feat. Illa J", steadily building a loyal and supportive fanbase. Inspired by the legendary live performances of The Roots with Jay-Z and the 40 piece orchestral arrangements by Miguel-Atwood Ferguson of the work of J Dilla, classic arranging techniques underpin modern loop-based structures, breathing new life into familiar material.
The band itself is based on the classic jazz big band instrumentation of saxes, trumpets, and trombones and features the cream of the north of England's jazz scene who collectively have played with Jamiroquai, Corinne Bailey Rae, Mark Ronson, Martha Reeves, John Legend & the Roots, Roots Manuva and Amy Winehouse.
"Madvillain Vol. 2" follows on from the 2018 release "Madvillain vol. 1" and further explores the jazz, TV soundtrack and film score aspect of the original work, combining it with classic big band writing and a focus on improvisation. As with vol 1. there is a strong influence of Quincy Jones, Lalo Schifrin and David Shire(Composer of the soundtrack to The Taking of Pelham 123) on the album, and the arranger Rob Mitchell crafts his own sound that inhabits the space between Madlib's production and Quincy Jones' writing.
As a bonus track to the album, Abstract reworks Dabrye's 'Air' and have included the original vocal of MF DOOM. Dabrye's original is heavily soaked in synths and drum machines, with an almost sci-fi, Blade Runner or Tron-esque sound . Mitchell explores this further and is influenced by Bob Brookmeyer's late work 'Electricity', which explores synths and jazz orchestration.
Madvillain Vol. 2 will build on the success of vol. 1 which received enormous support from Gilles Peterson & Huey Morgan on BBC6 Music as well as numerous airplay on Worlwide FM and Jazz FM, and reviews from soulbag in France and ukvibe, qwest.tv, and vinyl district online.
