Riot In Lagos in its essence is a compilation of modern productions and reworks rich in magic from the motherland. Following on from a recent resurgence of Afro inspired Disco thanks to labels like BBE, Strut, Tala A.M and Awesome Tapes From Africa digging heavy, and reissuing some of the best content in many years from the world's second
largest continent a wide and diverse range of.
To set the overall feel, the album kicks off with Perdu's 'Cece' an upbeat affair with all the attributes of a perfect carnival tune with afro percussion positive vocals and horn section Paul Simon would have been proud of.
Modern musicianship and productions meets original beats on Drop Out Orchestra's version of Jingo, which samples a rare version of Candido's classic whilst adding their own live guitars and heavy bass for modern club culture, whilst altogether at the other end of the spectrum is the amazing Dolette McDonald, David Byrne and Sting's go to backing vocalist with her first solo release in 30 years with production team FSQ's 'Shaking My Damn Head' a track with an apparent CBGB's feel to it that fuses Afro with the finest 80's Art pop.
South Beach Recycling heading slightly west with a tropical affair influence by the highlife rhythms that drifted down to the cost from nearby Ghana.

Catch Recordings is one of the UK's most interesting underground labels and to mark its 10th release it is back with another essential EP featuring four fresh tracks from Swedish artist, Random Island Records owner, Inter Gritty, who has previously released on labels like RISE and Deep Moves. Not to mention his own Random Islands works. Since the birth of Random Island in 2012 he has carved out a singular sonic niche for himself with various solo EP's and albums and also his partnership with Nihad Tule as NTTA11.
Lead track, 'Urge' is a deep and pulsing techno roller, with far off pulses and wonky synths working you into a hypnosis. Car Park Ranger is a more direct techno track that takes plenty of cues form the mind melting style of Detroit hero Jeff Mills. It is sci-fi and supple, has tightly interwoven drums and synths that travel far into the galaxy.
Viscosity is more spooky and eerie. It feels unresolved with a magical melody gently unfolding and leaving a sense of intrigue in its wake above deeply rooted, rubbery drums. Last of all, DT1 is an absorbing bit of ambient that suspends you amongst watery sounds, warm solar winds and brain soothing synths.
This is a cinematic EP that takes the listener on a journey with its
emotive and vivid techno sounds.

Why Why Why by the Woodentops is a turntable hit in the birth of the Balearic club scene. Arriving first in 1985 as a mix by Adrian Sherwood, a regular Amnesia track and again in 1987, as a live and far more up-tempo version from a number one live album.
The live version became one of the first anthems in Ibiza. Hearing and witnessing the record played, the UK holidaymakers and Dj's brought the track back as they started new clubs, Shoom, Boys own, Spectrum, Future, the Trip, based on what they had witnessed.
Why Why Why swiftly became a UK club hit and spread to be repeatedly played in the UK by a 'who's who' of the now big name Dj's as they began what became careers, all influenced by Dj Alfredo and Leo Mas and their now legendary Ibiza clubs.
This came at a time when there was a divide between the rock and the new exploding club scene. Why Why Why was a natural crossover, before bands began to release Dj remixes to infiltrate the new club music movement.
30 years later, the 2016 remixes were kicked off by a request to remix by Trevor Fung, who, with Paul Oakenfold, was involved in the hit Balearic Beats Vol 1
album that included Why Why Why in 1988.
The Woodentops recorded the song again, live, as there was no master tape. Quickly, more requests to remix this recording followed and the Wall Of Sound label
came forward to release the results.
Why Why Why is doing it again, an end of summer hit that will carry through to next summer, echoing the feeling of the moment with its words and a scattershot of fresh, floor packing mixes.

And like there's numerous of theories surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy so is also the case concerning the assassination of Olof Palme: 'The PKK trace', 'The police trace', The military league' are amongst many other explanation models, the headlines of the most popular conspiracy theories connected with this huge murder investigation. In Februari 2016, exactly 30 years after the shots on Sveagatan in Stockholm, F.A.T.M.A. laid the finishing touch on the two tracks 'Cirklar' and 'Dirty Beat' which Hoga Nord Rekords now releases on 7inch record. The genre can be labelled 'conspiracy funk', where the underlying message is thoroughly masked with a beat that only true professionals on funk, elektro and dub can mobilize. When the bass drops on 'Dirty Beat' it is clear that the search for best dance track in 2016 is over! The musicians behind F.A.T.M.A. are no rookies but they keep an anonymous approach: the secrecy surrounding the band fits well with the suggestion of their music and the secret agent/spy aura that encircles their sound. As undercover as SAPO-agents in a 1987 SAAB 9000 creeping up and down the streets of late eighties Stockholm, F.A.T.M.A. works their way forward in drawing the map over the confusing Palme investigation, and also over how nerve bending dance music should sound like.

As I-Robots launches a new compilation series that celebrates the roots and influences of Italo disco in Turin and the Piedmont region, the Opilec Music boss also offers up various singles from it with some special remixes and edits. After an EP from Johnson Righeira last summer comes the latest one featuring the legendary Captain Torkive and two of his tracks as well as some special versions by I-Robots.
Captain Torkive is Daniele Torchio, an Italian artist active in the late seventies & early eighties who got his nickname from a love of UFOs and space, in fact the titles here are inspired by the Superman DC Comics classic.
He has worked with the likes of Valero Liboni and all the material here is officially licensed from Ponzo Records master tapes. His tracks here are some of the most rare 7" Italo space disco tunes from Turin's rich history and feature synthesizers and electronic effects that he made himself, as well as guitars and keys he also played.
Up first comes the I-Robots 1979 Reconstruction of Flying Saucers To Krypton which marries both tunes into a lush retro space odyssey that shimmers and rockets through the cosmos with live drums and jangling bass.
Rounding off the A side is 1979 original version of Krypton' which is just as dazzling and spaced out with layers of synths and arps all sounding squelchy beneath some robot vocals.
Kicking off the B side is the I-Robots 1979 Space Reconstruction of Flying Saucers To Krypton that strips some of the layers and keeps one lead synth line and some ascending spaceship sounds, as well as a lovably loose groove that really stomps along with real character.
Last but not least is the original 1979 version of Flying Saucers, a cosmic tune with sci-fi sounds and melodies shooting about above big disco grooves with the keys and synths that carries you away to another galaxy.
This is another essential package from Opliec Music that shines a light on an artist and era that deserves all the attention it can get.

Spring Theory alumni Sage Caswell returns to the San Francisco-based label to deliver his debut album Hoop Earring. It's an enigmatic record that comes from the producer's own movement through personal transformation. It follows 2015’s 'Sleep Quarters', Caswell's introspective label debut, and offers 10 tracks spread out across two 12"s. Hoop Earring is heavily informed by surrealist visions and archetypal images from Caswell’s past that have crystallized within the context of this longplay album. Hoop Earring successfully paints images with broad brushstrokes and allegorical song titles that allows one to fill in fine details of a landscape built within the framework ten songs. “Ray Of Light 95’” alludes to a moment in time that smartly places you alongside an adolescent Caswell while songs like “Here We Guard Upon The Soul” land locks squarely in the middle with a poignant, nail-on-the-head statement. "Zora Scales (Step 1)" provides a focal reference to the fantasy world that this album might be the soundtrack to.
