Irish Drum & Bass veteran Zero T returns to Amsterdam imprint The North Quarter with his “Former Self EP”. Following up from his ambitious multi-genre project “Baby Grand”, Zero T now strips things down to a focused five-track project that manoeuvres through a broad range of styles within Drum & Bass. From his Soulful reinterpretation of Mango x MathMan's “Lonely Night” to the dubbed out weight of “Clash” - with Bristol-based rising producer Myth - this is a well balanced EP that displays Zero T's expansive vision and is a testimony to his growth as a producer and technician.
"I had a number of aims with my second EP for The North Quarter” Zero T explains. “While my first release 'Baby Grand' was an opportunity to explore working in different styles of music and utilising live instrumentation, I wanted this second release to be stripped back to basics: five Drum & Bass tracks that cover the spectrum of what I like within this music. There's two vocal tunes in the classic 'Liquid' style, one tune that could easily be described as Jump Up, a Dub/Jungle in fluenced track with Myth and finally what I would call a “listening track"; something not necessarily designed for DJs/clubs. If someone wants to know what I stand for, then this release says it all."
a1. Mango & MathMan - Lonely Night ft Loah (Zero T Vocal Mix)
a2. Zero T - Moments Fade ft Steo
b1. Zero T - I Want More
b2. Zero T & Myth - Clash

To celebrate 100 years of the Theremin, super producer Gaudi and friends have created an album of Theremin infused dub.
Developed in 1920 by Russian physicist Léon Theremin, the Theremin is an electronic device which works with magnetic fields and consists of one metal antenna controlled without physical contact. Predominantly a fairly niche instrument, it has featured in several styles of music since its creation, from classical works to sci-fi movie soundtracks, pop and rock.
Gaudi was supported in this tribute by five of the world's top dub producers - Mad Professor, Adrian Sherwood, The Scientist, Dennis Bovell and Prince Fatty. All hugely respected individuals who have been representing the best of international dub production for the last 50 years, they have provided the riddims that underpin Gaudi's Theremin playing on this astonishing project.
As a solo artist, Gaudi has recorded over 20 albums, while as a producer he has hundreds of productions under his belt. In his 30 year career he has worked with legends of the reggae and electronic music worlds including Steel Pulse, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Horace Andy, Michael Franti, Deep Forest, Zion Train, Dub FX, Youth, The Orb, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Trentemøller.
As a Theremin player for over 25 years, Gaudi has often combined his passion for the instrument and for reggae music, playing it on several of his albums, but until now he has never dedicated an entire release to it. Known and lauded for putting his "dub-take" on many musical genres, '100 Years of Theremin (The Dub Chapter)' is Gaudi's brainchild.
Listening to this blissful out-of-body-experience of an album, where roots reggae meets the enigmatic and ethereal sounds of sci-fi, is a deep and pensive experience. Haunting and mellifluous melodies meet earthy, bassy grooves in an unlikely yet undeniably successful union. Despite the individual styles of the producers involved, the album has a unified quality, the cinematic feel of a soundtrack with the narrative being the distinctive voice of the Theremin.

An assemblage of production across labels such as DEXT, Fabric/Houndstooth, Sound Pellegrino and his own GUNNER imprint has seen Troy traverse a multitude of tempos and club conditions. Paving the way for his debut EP on Only Ruins, ONRU004 is a luminous four-track 12" that exercises a complex and heavy-duty sound design.
As premiered by Saoirse on BBC Radio 1's Residency, Croak inaugurates the EP of post-apocalyptic effects-chains, exploring a twisted warfare of dancehall mutations, channelling synthesis through the belly of the beast.
Swede Get Spun is a contorted-tool, pacily worm-burning with nose tingling bass that gallops to the pulse of horse lasagne.
Championed as an opening track in the sets of Batu, Knee Slap is a claustrophobic coalition of intricately cut kicks that combat a playful sub-low and hyperspeed snare stabs.
Widely known for his collaborations with Joy Orbison as 'CO/R', Manchester's Herron (meandyou/Peder Mannerfelt Production), morphs 'Knee Slap' into a leviathan of scurrying dread and paranoid panic for darkened dancefloors. You'll want to keep your shinpads on for this one.
All profits are being donated to Anti-Racism charities.

A long-term project originally conceived in a small village in the north-east of England. Now with a residence permit and happily based in Berlin, Horden Colliery Country Club presents its first offering- The Away from the Hammock District EP.
Following a string of well received releases on Not an Animal, ESP Institute, MeMeMe and Future Boogie, Ian Blevins’ label takes its name from his hometown of Horden, a former colliery village which shares the humour, warmth and occasional menace of the imprint’s debut EP.
Opener Hammock is a no holds barred, dance floor primer which revels in its own magnetic immersion. A propulsive, nocturnal banger, side A of HCCC001 has much to offer in nine and a half minutes, its depths as euphoric as its peaks. The B Side comes packing with a snappy remix from Edmondson, another Berlin based north-east England comrade, and owner of the sublime Lissoms label. Edmondson’s version is a deep, jazzy number which lulls you into a false sense of security, sounding not unlike something Floating Points may be involved in.
Closing with You Are Alien, Ian plays on a more restrained pop sensibility, deployed with a distinct deftness of touch. Brimming with intent, there’s still plenty going on here to drive it home.
Taken as a whole, Away from the Hammock District embodies the style of set Ian Blevins has become known for- perfectly balanced, controlled chaos with a massive bang. More to come.
