Scrub a Dub kicks off 2020 with their twenty second release, featuring the vinyl debut for one of the most requested dubstep producers of the moment. A L X Z N D R has been making big waves with his melodic bootlegs and textured rhythms, gaining support from the likes of Mala, Sir Hiss and Zha.
The American producer’s Golden Gate EP breathes fresh life into soundsystem music with his original formulations and atmospheric sounds – available now on heavyweight vinyl and digital.
The last months have seen the rise of the northerner Somah. He returns to Scrub a Dub with two bass heavy rollers including his first collaboration with unsung hero Nova. Championed by Mala, Egoless and Toddla T, Somah mixes euphony and galloping rhythms to deliver some of his deepest cuts yet.
The Nebula EP sees the first collaboration between upcoming Glaswegian producers RUDA and Rapture 4D for a gleaming-but-gritty 4 piece instrumental EP.
Yoker born grime prodigy, Rapture 4D has been catching people’s attention since he graduated from the Red Bull Academy working with the likes of Sir Spyro, Plastician, P Money and Stormin while RUDA is an active member of the Glasgow underground bass scene and a LVLZ radio resident.
For its 20th release, Scrub a Dub touch down on grime territories, oscillating between square waves and space echoes. This new 12” pushes the boundaries of dub as we know it while remaining deep and heavy - a pure slice of Glaswegian dubstep.
Josi Devil, aka JD, the enigmatic producer behind the Rules of the dance remix featured on Kahn and Neek’s fabric mix - returns with a double 12” and two absolute melters. DigiDub has been on dubplate for a few years doing the rounds with the likes of L U C Y, Commodo & Sir Hiss while Mistakes is a different beast and possibly the coldest release on Scrub a Dub to date.
Forward thinking dub is the ethos of this highly collaborative future stepper from Scrub A Dub Records. US production duo Alter Echo & E3 have linked up with Bristol’s Ishan Sound to create an awe- inspiring warrior stance anthem. Ah Mi Guide features a hypnotic sample from Rider Shafique, over an unrelenting beat crafted by E3 and Ishan then mixed in dub by Alter Echo. The flipside remix comes via ascendant dubstep producer Egoless, who transforms the stark original into a slow burning fire, garnished with a flourishing flute refrain. Either side is guaranteed to shake up and mesmerise a dance!
Topping off 2017, Scrub a dub has signed two hot new producers with some fresh Soundsystem weapons.
Unity Sessions Sound System resident Somah delivers a spacious dub with whiplashing synths, while JSM comes with a gritty percussion lead piece entitled “King of kings”, rough and tough.
These tracks are already gaining support from VIVEK, Coki, Bukez Finest, Mungo’s Hi Fi and many more.
With only 500 copies pressed, here’s one 12" not to sleep on.
Ghori from D-Operation Drop is a driving soundsystem roller with a low swung beat crushed through 80’s sci-fi algorithms and burnt onto analog tape. On the flip is Natty coil, one of the crew’s most requested tracks, a masterful mix of organic bass and robotic shuffled hi hats from these mix scientists.
D-Operation Drop are a crew from Italy who gravitated around their love of bass, releasing music on labels such as Artikal, Lion Charge, Zam Zam and Moonshine, gaining support from the likes of J:Kenzo, N Type, Bukez Finezt, and Dj Madd.
Soulquencies is a perfect harmony of deconstructed soundsystem music. Beautifully rebuilt with ambient textures, it hints towards grime and steppers while all the time melodious, musical and underpinned with bass weight. It perfectly transcends from clean and heavenly harmonies to bass pressure and grit – icy to warm in a masterful way.
This is the first full length album on Scrub a Dub and we couldn’t be prouder of this piece of music, which is equally at home on a hi-fi or a soundsystem.
Soulquencies is the brand new album from the artist Aquarius, a classically trained musician from Tokyo who cut his teeth in the music industry in Glasgow in the early noughties. He hosted some of the city’s frst dubstep nights bringing artists like Silkie and Goth Trad, and taking small basement sessions into the bigger clubs, supporting Mala at the Art School. He played at some of the frst Outlook festival parties and was a trusted tour engineer for Mungo’s Hi Fi Soundsystem, before returning to Tokyo where he distilled his experiences and musical vision into this project.
Ltd single-sided 180g 12" Vinyl. If you have heard Kahn & Neek's Fabric mix you will know this tune. It started appearing in their sets early this year and brings a level of darkness to Charlie P's vocal pitching it down to about 3 semitones away from hell. Combined with JD's deep instrumental it becomes a melancholic masterpiece. Catch the limited onesided press before it vanishes.

As soon as we heard them we fell in love with these tracks and could not wait to press them on heavyweight vinyl. This Scrub a Dub will not be around for long. Von D got excited over his new hardware and has succeeded in reaching the holy grail of dub. With this simple but effective master Von Dizzle shows off even more than his usual finesse. Egoless can do no wrong. After years meditation on the meaning of sound he is here with his latest lesson. Drums. Bass
