When it comes to VIPs this is about as special as you can get. A forgotten VIP of a genre-defining record. Clear Skyz (1996 VIP) was written at the same time as the original and committed to DAT, it was then forgotten about until very recently when Die was going through old DATs and discovered this lost gem. No less potent than the original, the 1996 VIP shows that whatever form Clear Skyz takes, it will always be classic source material. Another chapter in essential jungle / d&b history from Bristol.

The Bristol-based artist is a pioneer of electronic music. He has released music on seminal UK labels XL Recordings, Talkin’ Loud, Full Cycle and now heads up the incomparable GutterFunk label.
Up until now, DJ Die has consistently pushed forward with his music, whether that be with music made with Dismantle as DieMantle or his collabs with Addison Groove the mantra has been 'do not rest on your laurels' but the time has now come to own his legacy as a trailblazer.
He has chosen to do this via remastering, rereleasing and repackaging 12 of his most innovative solo track recorded between 1995 and 2000 via his label GutterFunk.

Gutterfunk has become known for its open ended music policy, the phrase ‘melting pot’ is often over used but it perhaps is the most apt way of describing the label.
DJ Die and Addison Groove are both innovators as solo artists but as a pairing all rules really go out of the window. Drum machines co-exist with drum breaks, sub-cultures from Chicago to Sao Paulo are represented and refined through the Bristol eye and a new aesthetic is born, always dancefloor and never obvious.

Continuing in the long lineage of sound system culture and adding yet another curve to the label's already diverse catalogue, this time its all's about the Dub flavours.
