In The Joker EP, Biome shows why he is right at the very top of the game. 4 incredibly made pieces of Dubstep mastery, beautifully put together into the first Deep, Dark & Dangerous release of 2021.
Creepy intros, crunchy midbass, crisp and slick drumwork, quirky hooks and crushing sub all categorise this release. Each sample and sound meticulously positioned for maximum effect. Biome has always been the king of making sure everything is in it's right place, less is more, every piece of the puzzle has it's purpose and the whole release is a masterclass in this aesthetic.
We know you are going to love it as much as we do.
Firing out of Wakaan on May 24th is the supercharged new EP from New Zealand’s very own TRUTH. They began working together a decade ago and ramp up the intensity for this four-track offering, which brings out their contagious, floor-filling vibe as an act.
TRUTH kick-start the EP with its title track; a busy bassline and reverbing bass notes thud out of the speakers with fiery direction and crisp rhythms. ‘Goodnight’ blends drifting vocal samples and a deep, grooving beat that has been drenched in low-end energy.
‘Creatures’ is a chance for menacing snatches of melody to infiltrate its commanding bassline, coming in thickly textured waves. The last tune here is ‘For Sure,’ again showcasing TRUTH’s knack for incorporating unique samples and coupling them with a roving, pitched down backdrop.
They say "With this EP we wanted to showcase some of the diversity of our sound. From the triplet-driven crazy energy of the title track ‘The Unexpected’ with its bouncy bassline and in your face sound design. The ravey, garage-esque intro of ‘Goodnight,’ which transforms into a snarling reese-bass monster. ‘Creatures’ is something straight out of the swampy depths, sucking you in with horror vibes. Then ‘For Sure’ is just plain weird, but catchy, upping the tempo on that one.
We've been vibing on Wakaan for a while now, so it's a real honor to be able to release a full EP of material on such a dope label. There also seems to be a massive crossover in people who enjoy the Wakaan sound and people who follow our Deep, Dark & Dangerous label. So we're really excited to see how people respond to this release, and just in general seeing what the future has in store for the scene as a whole!
This EP is about to absolutely cement Distinct Motive’s position in the Dubstep scene as a producer who can create so much vibe while keeping things simple and straight to the point. “Radar” was one of the picks of Outlook Festival 2018. Hearing Mala drop this track in every set and and watching the crowd go completely nuts (instant rewind) was such a treat. All the tracks on this release have a proven record at causing a large amount of damage at the rave.
We’ve been fans of Samba for a few years now and have been following his progress as he’s risen to become one of the most sought after producers in the Dubstep scene today. When Sam sent us this EP, we were instantly blown away by the music. Title track “Kings” has become a huge dubplate within the scene with support from dons like Commodo and Mala. To us the quite melodic 808 bassline harks back to early Good Looking records vibes, while the crisp fresh production and drumwork firmly places this release in 2019.
Truth & Youngsta to release new album under the “Shadow People” moniker.
Shadow People is a new project fresh from the studios of award-winning New Zealand production duo Truth (“Best Electronic Artist” – 2017 New Zealand Music Awards, “Best Album” & “Best EP” – 2017 Dubstep Awards) and world renowned DJ Youngsta. Over 3 years in the making, the self-titled “Shadow People” is a meticulously produced, bass-heavy peek into a post-apocalyptic landscape populated by people living in the shadows.
Shadow People features collaborations with producers Taso (Teklife) and Cimm, as well as vocal features from Animai, Spikey Tee, Ace Boogie, Lelijveld, Rosa Ward and Melanie Antonides. Sonically setting itself apart from other Truth productions, such as their 2017 album “Wilderness of Mirrors”, this release sheds layers to expose a more stripped back offering. “Shadow People” also represents the first full-length LP to be released on Deep, Dark & Dangerous, the label which won “Label of the Year” at the 2017 Dubstep Awards.
Shadow People Bio: From the catastrophic aftermath of an alchemical experiment executed far from the reaches of hazy light in downtown Los Angeles, Shadow People emerged from the smoking ruins like cockroaches during nuclear winter. Testing sonic limitations in this new world, their transmissions began to create hope within an unstable reality, providing sanctuary for all who listened. Now, like their decaying surroundings, the Shadow People channel the dramatic, minimal and morose into lucid creation. No longer subjugated by the shackles of classification that plagued their world, they embrace mutation and forging paths untrodden.
