Boogie Box, a bi-monthly party in the Middle East, launches its record label with an LP by STL aka Stephan Laubner.
With tracks and releases on Smallville, Phonica, Echochord and his own label Something Records, STL has crafted an unmistakeable sound that he has become so well known for, Deep and Dubby House and Techno.
The a-side opens up with Hide & Seek, a 10-minute story filled with dub delays, weird soundscapes, and eerie pads, backed up by STL’s signature drums. If you are into Andy Stott, Deepchord and Rhythm & Sound, then this if for you. Perfect warm up material.
On the flip-side is Haze & Kraze. Another long player by STL. This time, there is more drive to it. Leaning towards the darker side, the track is driven by Stephan’s loose drums’ programming, and muffled bassline, keeping the track moving and ever-changing. Something for your after-after-hour sets perhaps?
Support from: Appleblim, Endian, Cain, Fold, Itinerant Dub and Juniper.
We follow up our debut release by STL with a dancefloor oriented EP by Scotsman Cain.
For those new to Cain, a regular on Highlife Records (a sub-label of Huntleys & Palmers), you have been missing out. He’s known for fusing his love of traditional music from around the world with infectiously rhythmic drum pattern writing, stand-out melodies and futuristic bass work.
And this release is no different. Seeing as we are a record label based in the Middle East, Cain jumped on the opportunity to dig for Arabic influenced drums and rhythms to build the EP around.
The results are dope! And just in time for the summer season.
Causa steps up to lead up the way for Boogie Box’s third release, delivering two House cuts, Calo and Cantales, in dedication to his friend and colleague Marcus Intalex aka Trevino who sadly passed away last year. Calo gets a rework on Side B by Aus Music regular Komon and Berlin’s rising Techno star Pablo Mateo.
