“In some ways this might be the release we’ve always wanted to put out. It ticks all the boxes for us - Atmosphere, spaciousness and killer snares. Hopefully the timing is good too, dubstep may be going through a(nother) transitional phase, finding a new identity. These 4 tracks by Gremlinz & AxH strip things back to the raw basics and put the emphasis back on primitive top-notch production.” - JonBoka

Thundaklap was a name we discovered during a track ID rabbit- hole while listening to a mix performed by Sleeper, someone who has championed the track “Makeya” in his sets for a while now. Thundaklap is a bachelor of history in his native country of Russia, Siberia. He has been doing music earnestly for about 8 years and he sometimes plays drums in interesting experimental projects. Here he makes his debut on Boka Records, a label famed for bringing forth new talent.

“For as long as I can remember, I've had a strong fascination/obsession with Japan – the culture, history, people, technology. Japanese toys, cartoons, and fashion have contributed greatly to my compulsive collecting problem over the years. It's always been a dream to visit, and in 2014, that dream came true.
I knew I wanted to create the 'Tokyo EP' as soon as the flight was booked. It was a personal challenge to myself to create a concept EP with a simple set of rules: Collect as many sounds in Japan as possible, and create Dubstep using those sounds. I wanted to bring as much of Japan back home with me as I could. I bought countless CDs, vinyl records, soundtracks, and anime. I captured 24-bit WAV recordings on trains, in parks, in taxis, restaurants, at live shows. I bought movies. I had hours and hours of audio to listen through when I returned home, and after a month or two of sorting and sampling, there were enough sounds to begin work.
Japan is the most amazing place I've ever visited in my life. I can't wait to go back. This EP is the embodiment of my experience – the places I visited; the things I love. Thank you for listening and I hope you enjoy the 'Tokyo EP' as much as I enjoyed creating it. Big up”
