Tommy De Roos (FFF) from Rotterdam, Netherlands joins Syko on this EP to remix an unreleased track from Syko's back catalogue 'Children of God'. This was due for release back in the day but never happened after the label ended. Really excited to finally release this and have Tommy do a fresh remix. The B-Side welcomes FFF again with some fresh new beats and Syko also brings the B-Side business with a fresh new track.
This double EP is a recognition of the Syko & Mak era and those who used to come to the shops just to hang out and listen to the latest white labels. It includes remasters of 3 of those original tracks from 1992 as well as 5 previously unreleased tracks from 95/96. The 3 original tracks on this EP spark some of those best memories. Including hearing Grooverider play the first test press of "Here & Now'' at the Fantazia Rave at Castle Donnington. Standing at the back and watching the 28,000 crowd lose their heads to our track was unforgettable ! Trading DATs with LTJ Bukem. He'd travel up to Hitchin on a Sunday just to share music, "Journey into the Nebulous" was the first track we gave him. The first play of "Rough & Dangerous"... A hazy memory of an Exodus rave in a wooded enclave somewhere near Luton. Unforgettable memories..
Rob Haigh and Syko dip into their Persons Unknown vault again for some previously unreleased and unheard tracks. Unearthed, cleaned, re-edited and remastered, these tracks capture that 90s drum and bass sound. Fusing the creative ideas, stems and music from these well known original artists under 'Persons Unknown'. We have worked meticulously to create these timeless tracks; adding to the Persons Unknown story..
Groundbreaking EP by Thugwidow the Ambient jungle Project of Alex Lowther-Harris a former resident of Hereford, Bristol, London and Manchester now settled on the Isle Of Anglesey. Embracing the negative aspects of Happy Hardcore and the positive aspects of Darkside Jungle a new sound has formed, one that despite it's bleak appearance creates it's own unique vibe.
Celebrating the Old Skool and the New, this EP will take you on a journey through time; revisiting some of the origins of drum and bass. We start by breathing new life into original tracks from the “DJ Syko - Be Alright EP Candidate Records (CAT004)”; re-mastering and re-engineering these 1994 classics. On the flip side “Playing with Fire” is a fresh new track; showcasing my direction for 2021. Like most artists from back in the day, I was heavily influenced by the 80s hip hop and breakbeat culture. DJs like Grandmaster Flash, Kool Herc, Marley Marl and many others showed us what we could do with the best “breaks” from old forgotten music. Hip Hop DJs and those influenced by that scene here in the UK became the first drum and bass artists. “Take a Break” revisits the Hip Hop & Breakbeat culture that inspired me back then to make music and still inspires me today. Something for the Original BBoy.
The Pianism EP was originally produced by Rob Haigh in 1993 under the alias ‘Splice’ on PM Recordings (Parliament Music) PMT 015 - Pianism E.P (Enter The Light). This original vinyl cut in 1993 had seven original piano breaks, as Rob described these were meant to be for DJ use. Strangely no one ever sampled these and made a new tune !? (Or at least we can’t find one!). Last year in 2020 we remixed these 3 tunes and added one unreleased tune with Syko and Rob on BSBR003 as VOL.1. We then decided this year to invite four artists and give them the sample parts, and let them loose on producing/remixing one of the 3 pianism tracks. These new tracks would become Pianism Remix EP Vol.2. We did not let any of the chosen artists know the BPM’s or who was working on what track, or give them any guidance. Swapping the piano riff into a baseline for example would also be ok, we just wanted to let this naturally evolve into this EP, and see what each artist’s interpretation of this classic EP would be. Massive respect and thanks to Rob Haigh for allowing us to remix this classic EP from 93. Big ups for supporting our label and we hope you enjoy the remixes by Tim Reaper, Ron Wells, Law & Wheeler and Justice.
